Will Coleman began his riding career when he was just 6 years old, riding his Shetland Pony, TJ, in the Virginia hunt fields with family and dabbling in multiple disciplines. Coleman’s interest in Eventing was cultivated when he attended a clinic with Karen and David O’Connor and later went to work for them in the summers. Coleman’s youth career reached a pinnacle in 2001 when he was the individual gold medalist at the North American Youth Championships. Coleman became the first U.S. athlete to win the Bramham CCI4*-L in 2003 and made his CCI5*-L debut that same year with a completion at Burghley. The following year Coleman was named to the U.S. Eventing Team short list for the 2004 Athens Olympics and later was named to the U.S. Eventing Team at the 2012 London Olympics. Together, Coleman and Chin Tonic HS (Chin), owned by Hyperion Stud, LLC, have placed in the top 5 fourteen times, ten of which the pair took home the win. The pair’s first win was at their FEI debut at Great Meadow International in 2019 where they finished on their dressage score of a 25.0. Chin Tonic HS and Coleman have gone on to build an FEI record consisting of ten wins, all sub-30 dressage scores, and four sub-20 dressage scores, including a 15.7 at Stable View Oktoberfest 2/3/4* and H.T. in 2022. In February 2025, Coleman and Chin Tonic HS broke the record for the lowest dressage score with a 17.3 at the $100,000 Stiriling Venture Capital Grand-Prix Eventing Showcase at Bruce’s Field.
