Boyd Martin, the son of Olympic speed skater Toy Dorgan Martin and Olympic cross-country skier Ross Martin, began riding at a young age in his native country of Australia. He made his CCI5*-L debut at the 2003 Australian International Three-Day Event (now known as Adelaide Equestrian Festival). He moved to the U.S. in 2007 to further his career as an Eventing professional and served as the assistant trainer to Olympian Phillip Dutton for two years. In 2009, Martin began riding for the U.S. and by 2012 was named to his first Olympic list and would later go on to being a four-time Olympian, four-time U.S. Eventing Team member for the FEI Eventing World Championships, and two-time medal winning team member for the Pan American Games. Luke 140 (Luke), owned by the Luke 140 Syndicate, joined Martin’s stable in 2019 after beginning his career with Malin Petersen in Sweden. Martin and Luke 140 have had over fifteen FEI starts and over ten top five finishes. Luke 140 was chosen as Martin’s first mount for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. In 2023, Martin and Luke 140 placed in the top ten at Luhmühlen CCI5*-L and again in 2025 at the Kentucky Three Day CCI5*-L.
