Is Your Deworming Protocol Helping Make Worms Resistant?

by Glenye Oakford | 10/17/2017 3:00:00 PM

Good pasture management can also help reduce intestinal parasites. (physyk/Adobe Stock) Here’s the bad news: worms are becoming resistant to our efforts to kill them, thanks in part to traditional deworming protocols that called for dosing horses every two months. That was the thinking when the first broad-spectrum dewormers (also called anthelmintics) hit the market back in the 1960s, but over the decades that protocol helped the worms become less sensitive to the medicine. “And...

Horses Have Landed!

by Joanie Morris | 10/11/2011 9:33:32 PM

Things are getting going now. The day started with a trip to the USOC communications headquarters at the Main Press Center - it was great to see everyone and make some plans for the next three weeks. To many of the sport people, what we do is very foreign so I did a lot of explaining about how these horses are going to get to Mexico. The USOC staff is great, I met them all in Colorado Springs a few weeks ago - it is a great reminder that we are part of something so much greater than our sport....

Road to NAJYRC - Eventing - Final Post

by Lizzie Snow | 8/5/2011 4:47:15 PM

Time certainly flew by in Kentucky at NAJYRC. We arrived mid afternoon Monday and got all unpacked and settled in the best that we could. Devon got to go on a nice big hand walk and ate some delicious Kentucky Blue Grass. I probably could have just left him right outside the compound and he never would have moved a foot all week with all of the grass. Tuesday I rode twice. I got on in the morning and went for a big walk around to show him the sights. He can get a little worried about things so...

Road to NAJYRC - Reining - Post 3

by Laura Sumrall | 7/27/2011 9:50:12 PM

Well, we finally made it to Lexington yesterday around noon. My dad and I came as the “advance crew” to make sure everything would be ready for our team’s horses when they got here. We got all the bedding and the stall signs put up and everything else we could think of. Mr. Randy had an ETA of around 1 A.M. As it sometimes happens, things did not go quite according to plan. They rolled into the park around 5 o’clock this morning, exhausted from the all-night drive. So,...
