All Kinds of Mixed Emotions

by Joanie Morris | 10/5/2010 8:43:00 AM

Disappointment is hard to swallow. I think we are still choking on it after our dreams for a medal in eventing went on the skids when Mandiba slammed on the brakes in the show jumping at a black gate. Becky Holder made the difficult decision to withdraw Courageous Comet while sitting in a very good spot for a medal but Comet will be back to fight another day and Becky and Aubrey really do look after him so well. We were all devastated, especially after Karen had the round of the day on the...

by Emily Daily | 10/4/2010 10:32:23 PM

The atmosphere during the final press conference at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games was full of giddy excitement, as the riders were all smiles after their successful week. After a turbulent four days, the Great Britain team of William Fox-Pitt/Cool Mountain, Mary King/Imperial Cavalier, Nicola Wilson/Opposition Buzz, and Kristina Cook/Miners Frolic reigned supreme to take home the gold medal. This was the first time a Great Britain team has won team gold at the WEG since 1994. ?...

Time Warp

by Helen Murray | 10/4/2010 8:34:18 PM

Right now I have this strange feeling that time has stopped for a few hours. Which is very bizarre to say as it seems as though everything and everyone has been going non-stop for going on 10 days now. Yesterday we wrapped up week one (well it was actually a little more than a week) with the eventing show jumping. The end to this part of the competition was definitely not what everyone had expected. While the end result was disappointing for the US all the event riders and their large support...

As Annette Bevelhymer and her son, Kory, walked the grounds of the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games on Saturday afternoon, looking for tips that would help Kory with his American Quarter Horse, Korys Miracle Spirit, it truly was a miracle they were even there. Annette shared their story as she stopped by the booth AQHA is sharing with the National Reining Horse Association in the WEG trade show. “When Kory was 5 years old, he had to have a bone marrow transplant down in Cincinnati,...

USHJA Blog - A Wet, Soggy Jog

by Jeannie Putney for USHJA | 10/4/2010 10:51:32 AM

It’s funny to watch the jog for different disciplines and how different the horses act. I find the most humorous jogs to be the hunters and the reiners. I expected the jumpers to be quite fresh at the jog just like the event or dressage horses, but they really weren’t—with a few exceptions. There was a horse from New Zealand, a gorgeous stallion, who was being jogged by two people. It was somewhat funny to watch but surely wouldn’t have been if I had been on the other...
