Boyd Martin, the son of Olympic speed skater Toy Dorgan Martin and Olympic cross-country skier Ross Martin, began riding at a young age in his native country of Australia. He made his CCI5*-L debut at the 2003 Australian International Three-Day Event (now known as Adelaide Equestrian Festival). He moved to the U.S. in 2007 to further his career as an Eventing professional and served as the assistant trainer to Olympian Phillip Dutton for two years. In 2009, Martin began riding for the U.S. and by 2012 was named to his first Olympic list and would later go on to being a four-time Olympian, four-time U.S. Eventing Team member for the FEI Eventing World Championships, and two-time medal winning team member for the Pan American Games. Commando 3 (Conner) was purchased by Yankee Creek Ranch and joined Martin’s stable in late 2022 after beginning his career with Louise Romeike in Sweden. At each of the FEI competitions the pair has completed, they have finished in the top 10 placings. This includes three back-to-back wins spanning from 2023 and 2024 at the CCI4* level. Later in 2024, Commando 3 was named Martin’s Direct Reserve for the 2024 Olympic Games. Martin and Commando 3 continued their high level of success into 2025 with claiming multiple wins in the spring season including the title as the 2025 Defender/USEF CCI5*-L National Champion. Together the pair claimed victory at four podiums across the 2025 season including their autumn starts at Plantation Field International CCI4*-S, and the MARS Maryland 5 Star CCI5*-L.
