Dan Kreitl began riding horses at the age of 12, first learning dressage at a Curly Horses breeding farm near his family home in Indiana. He competed as a Young Rider in dressage at the 2008 FEI North American Youth Championships. Kreitl saw eventing for the first time at NAYC and switched his focus to the newfound discipline. He rose through the levels at the national level before competing in his first FEI event in 2021. Kreitl and Carmango won The Dutta Corp. USEF CCI4*-L Eventing National Championship in the fall of 2022--the first CCI4*-L for the pair. In 2023, the duo was fifth in the CCI4*-S at the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by MARS Equestrian^TM.
