Western Dressage’s Esteemed WDAA World Championship Show Gets Underway

by US Equestrian Communications Department | Sep 26, 2018, 11:45 AM

Lexington, Ky. – The Western Dressage Association of America (WDAA) is preparing to host the 2018 Western Dressage World Championship Show from September 27-30. The championship returns to the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla., bringing together top combinations from across the United States and Canada for competition and to share the love of Western dressage with their peers.

The 2018 slate of judges includes Ronald Bartholomew (Martville, N.Y.), Donna Longacre (Longview, Wash.), Fatina Pawlenko Kranz (Algonquin, Ill.), and Charlotte Trentelman (Anthony, Fla.).

The WDAA World Championship Show features four days of competition. Thursday, September 27, consists of a full day of rail classes. Beginning Friday, September 28, competition will be held across four arenas for all levels of Western dressage tests. Additional divisions are offered for junior exhibitors, amateurs, open riders, and gaited horses. Several classes are dedicated to the Heroes on Horses division, providing opportunities for physically challenged riders to show their horses. A therapeutic riding exhibition is also on the agenda for Friday and Saturday. Admission is free and spectators are encouraged to attend.

For those involved in the WDAA Horse Lifetime Points and Awards Program, it is exciting to note that the Western Dressage World Championship Show is the only triple-point show in existence!

The focus of the show will not only be on top competition but on a shared celebration of the discipline. WDAA is offering several special events throughout the weekend for spectators and exhibitors alike, including an exhibitors meeting and pizza party, awards ceremony, and silent auction.
