This prestigious award has recognized the nation’s top amateur athletes annually since 1888, with the likes of famed Olympians Carl Lewis (1981), Jackie Joyner-Kersee (1986), Michael Phelps (2003), and Shawn Johnson (2008) all honored previously.

“I am thrilled and honored to have made it to the finals,” says Peavy. “It is a privilege to be beside these amazing athletes. I want to thank everyone who helped me get this far and for the continued support. I have to mention my four-legged partners, Lance and Cocoa, and my amazing teammates.”

Peavy, a 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ participant and 2016 Rio Paralympian, had stand-out success in the dressage ring in 2017, including a win in the Grade IV FEI Team Test and Individual Test, as well as a second place in the Grade IV FEI Freestyle Test at the Adequan® Global Dressage Festival CPEDI3*. She and her equine partner, Royal Dark Chocolate, Rebecca Reno’s 10-year-old Oldenburg mare, went on to win the Grade IV FEI Team Test and Freestyle Test at the Bishop Burton CPEDI3* in Beverly, UK.

Finishing out the year, Peavy and Royal Dark Chocolate were named the overall National Champions at the 2017 USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championships sponsored by Deloitte in Mill Spring, N.C. The pair also helped the Deloitte U.S. Para-Equestrian Dressage Team earn top honors in the team competition.

Having represented her country on the Deloitte U.S. Para-Equestrian Dressage Team, Peavy illustrates leadership and sportsmanship. She has performed under extreme pressure and delivered great results in competition. Peavy cheers on her teammates and handles herself with grace, no matter the results.
