US Equestrian has acquired an ownership stake in EquiRatings Limited, the Ireland-based equestrian data and analytics company, through a wholly owned for-profit subsidiary.
EquiRatings has served as US Equestrian's data partner for several years and was named Official Data and Insights Partner earlier this year. The company works across two areas. On the competition side, it is the data and storytelling engine behind the US Equestrian Open Series, providing weekly editorial coverage, live leaderboards, fan guides, and the US Equestrian Open Podcast across jumping, eventing, and dressage. On the governance side, EquiRatings' risk modelling and performance ratings are trusted by federations and competition organizers around the world, including FEI and British Eventing, among others, to support horse welfare, competition safety, and qualification decisions.

The investment is a direct execution of US Equestrian's 2025-28 Strategic Plan, which prioritizes data and technology, fan engagement, storytelling, and the social license of the sport. The acquisition took place through a for-profit subsidiary that is wholly owned by US Equestrian, which is a common business structure across many industries. This allows membership organizations like USEF to invest in for-profit ventures without impacting member services, athlete services, programs, or the Federation’s non-profit status. The acquisition was not paid for from operating expenses, membership fees, or horse/event fees. Instead, in accordance with the organization’s current strategic plan, investments in big-picture initiatives are made from the profits of the Federation’s existing investment portfolios with the goal of improving sport and creating long-term financial stability for the governing body. The acquisition is projected to be a significant cost savings for the Federation long-term, improving financial strength of both entities.

The investment reflects the value EquiRatings delivers inside the organization as much as to fans. Their team sit at the intersection of data analysis and sport knowledge which are a huge support to USEF internal teams and affiliates with clean, structured information to inform decisions across performance, welfare, and sport governance.
EquiRatings will continue to operate independently from its base in Carlow, Ireland, under its existing leadership and continues to serve its global client base.
"EquiRatings has become one of the most important partners in our sport," said Bill Moroney, CEO of US Equestrian. "This investment secures that value for the long term and delivers on the Strategic Plan we have set for the sport."
"We built EquiRatings to make a mark on how equestrian sport uses data, from welfare to fan engagement," said Diarmuid Byrne, co-founder of EquiRatings. "This partnership gives us the backing and the shared ambition to push that further than we could alone."
