Hutchins-Kristen Takes the Lead after Dressage in the USEF CCI1* Eventing National Championship; Pierce Sitting on Top of USEF CCI1*-JR/YR Eventing National Championship

Lexington, Ky. – Competitors took to the dressage arena at the Kentucky Horse Park on Thursday for the first day of competition at the 2017 Hagyard MidSouth Three-Day Event.

Bethany Hutchins-Kristen (Dryden, Mich.) leads after the dressage phase in the USEF CCI1* Eventing National Championship aboard Geluk HVF, the six-year-old Dutch Warmblood stallion she owns with Marian Hutchins, with a score of 42.2. 

Andrew Walker (Grass Lake, Mich.) and Jonathan Brant's Aces Baby, an eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse gelding, are in second place behind Hutchins-Kristen, with a score of 45.3.

Caitlin Silliman (Aiken, S.C.) and Morgan McCue's Ally Kgo, a six-year-old Trakehner mare, are currently in third place with a score of 46.8.

Top eventing young rider prospects also kicked off their competition with the dressage phase for the USEF CCI1*-JR/YR Eventing National Championship. Anna Pierce (Lucas, Texas) and River King, the 16-year-old Oldenburg gelding she owns with Diane Pierce, took the lead with a score of 42.7. 

Ryan Hall (Arlington, Texas) and S.V.R. Ron, S.V.R. Ron Syndicate LLC's 17-year-old Silla Uruguay gelding, currently sit in second with a score of 44.7. 

Elizabeth Scheltema (Caledonia, Mich.) and Bill Owen, a 13-year-old Hanoverian/Hackney cross gelding owned by Kathryn Scheltema, sit in third with a score of 45.3.

Cross-country begins at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, October 20, for the  CCI1* and CCI1*-JR/YR divisions.
