Coleman and Off The Record Maintain Lead Following Cross-Country Phase of US Equestrian Open Eventing Final CCI4*-L

Leesburg, Va. - It was an influential day of cross country at the 2025 US Equestrian Open Eventing Final CCI4*-L, hosted at Morven Park International Equestrian Center in Leesburg, Va. 29 horse-and-rider combinations took to the challenging track designed by Derek di Grazia (USA). Will Coleman (Ocala, Fla.) and Off The Record finished the 5,778-meter-long course just under the 10:09-minute optimum time, crossing through the timers in 10:04 minutes to maintain their lead and remain on their dressage score of 25.1 penalties. Coleman is now the first athlete to complete the CCI4*-L at Morven Park within the optimum time twice. Earlier in the order of go, he and his other mount, Very Dignified, a 2015 Irish Sport Horse mare (Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet x Kateys Gem), owned by Jerome Boussard, Elizabeth Lendrum, and Gloria Callen, and cared for by Erin Jarboe, crossed the timers at exactly 10:09 minutes and sit in sixth place overall with a score of 35.4 penalties.

“It wasn’t the smoothest round we’ve ever had,” said Coleman of his longtime partner Off The Record, a 2009 Irish Sport Horse gelding (VDL Arkansas x Drumagoland Bay), owned by Off The Record Syndicate, and cared for by Erin Jarboe. “He got really worked up in the warm-up and was just like a freight train starting out. It took us a bit to find our rhythm, but it’s a credit to him; on a day where we weren’t totally in sync, he still hunts the flags and does whatever it takes to stay between them. That’s the sign of a good horse, and he is that.”

Despite the challenging start, Coleman praised “Timmy’s” grit and determination over di Grazia’s testing track. “He’s not the most gifted galloper, but he was giving me everything,” Coleman said. “It was hard work, but he digs deeply when he must. I couldn’t be prouder of him.”

In second place is Boyd Martin (Cochranville, Pa.) and Miks Master C, a 2012 U.S.-bred Swedish Warmblood gelding (Mighty Magic x Qui Luma CBF), owned by Ocala Horse Properties, LLC., Deborah Palmer, and Rachael Isaacson, and cared for by Stephanie Simpson. The pair added 2.8 time penalties to their dressage score after they crossed the timers in 10:16 minutes, bringing a score of 28.7 into the final day of competition tomorrow.

Moving into third place is Great Britain’s Lucienne Bellissimo and Kitsch Couture HPK, who produced a steady round and climbed up from eighth after dressage. Their time of 10:14 minutes added 2.0 time penalties to sit on a current score of 33.5 ahead of the jumping phase.

Holding steady in fourth place, Phillip Dutton (West Grove, Pa.) and Denim, a 2015 Holsteiner gelding (Dinken x Celia II) owned by Caroline Moran, Ann Jones, Ann Lapides, and Neill Sites, and cared for by Erin Deyo, delivered a strong performance, finishing cross country with a time of 10:25 minutes on 33.9 penalties going into the final day of competition.

The biggest shift of the day for the leaderboard was Caroline Pamukcu (Springtown, Pa.) aboard HSH Double Sixteen, a 2015 Thoroughbred gelding (Robin de Pres x Azaria), owned by the Double Sixteen Partnership, and cared for by Chloe Teahan. The pair delivered the fastest round over the CCI4*-L track, finishing inside of the optimum time to jump from seventeenth into fifth on 35.2 penalties.

The US Equestrian Open Eventing Final will conclude on Sunday afternoon in the Grand Prix Arena as horse-and-athlete combinations take their turn around the jumping track designed by Christopher Barnard (USA). The final phase is set to kick off at 1:30 p.m. EST with the inaugural US Equestrian Open Eventing Champion crowned at the conclusion of the event, taking home the lion’s share of the $200,000 prize pot.
