A Letter From USEF President Tom O'Mara on the Federation's CEO Search

by Tom O'Mara | 7/1/2026

Dear US Equestrian Members,

Two weeks ago, we shared that Bill Moroney will retire as Chief Executive Officer after more than a decade of dedicated leadership. As we begin the work of identifying his successor, I want to share how the Board is approaching this important decision.

We are committed to a thorough and deliberate search. To lead it, the Board has formed a search committee of directors representing a broad range of our breeds and disciplines, so that the perspectives of our wide and varied community are reflected throughout the process.

To bring outside expertise and rigor, the committee is in discussions with several nationally recognized executive search firms and will select a professional partner to support our search. The process has yet to be finalized, but will include feedback from a diverse cross section of our membership (including amateur athletes, trainers, affiliate leadership, and others) to help define the priorities and qualities that matter most in our next leader.

Once our search partner is in place, the firm will establish a process for interested individuals to submit a letter of interest for the search team's review, and we will share those details in a follow-up communication at that time.

When the committee completes its work, it will bring its recommendation to the full Board of Directors, which will make the final decision.

Bill will continue to lead the organization through the transition, and the work and services our members rely on will carry on without interruption. We will share more as the process moves forward.

Thank you for your continued commitment to US Equestrian and to the sport we all love.

Sincerely,
Thomas F.X. O'Mara

USEF President
