Horse shows come in different sizes and shapes. Some are local, some regional or national, and a rare, select few attract attention from all over the world. Such is the Egyptian Event held annually at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington and celebrating its 32nd year of showcasing the Egyptian Arabian horse in 2012. Even the judging panels for the 2012 show reflect an international flavor, with judges from America, Germany, Brazil and Italy adjudicating. The Egyptian Arabian is considered by Arabian aficionados to be the most beautiful Arabian horse in the world. It has long been regarding as an ideal cross for Polish and Russian-bred Arabian horses. This unique, select bloodline has a loyal and dedicated following of breeders that is truly global in nature. Many of them will visit the Kentucky Horse Park during the upcoming Egyptian Event, slated for the first week in June, Monday through Saturday, the 4th through the 9th. The Egyptian Event is also internationally known for its beautiful classes and presentations, its seminars and clinics throughout the week of the show and its relaxing, friendly atmosphere, that includes parties, fabulous shopping at commercial exhibit booths, and a delightful Gala on Friday night at the Lexington Embassy Suites Hotel. This year’s Gala and Fundraiser is themed “An Arabian Night in Black and White.”

The overall Egyptian Event show theme in 2012 is “Born of the Desert Wind” and Friday morning’s seminar will feature that theme and popular speaker Joe Ferriss of Brownstone Farm, as he discusses the origins of Arabian type. Other seminars and clinics throughout the week will include “Amateur Showmanship: Keys to Success with Jill Girardi Thomas, The Saluqi, Coursing Hound of the Desert with Mary Beth Rogers and Horse of the Desert, a 21st Century Diet with Laurie Lawrence from the University of Kentucky. Highlights of the competition will include the two Egyptian Breeders Challenge classes for Straight Egyptian Yearling Fillies and Yearling Colts. Handled by owners and amateurs, the youthful Arabian hopefuls will compete for prize money this year of over $52,000 per class.

Saturday is an especially anticipated day annually at the Egyptian Event, as there are championship classes from dawn until well into the evening. The Saturday evening session will be simulcast this year by Arabian Horse Global and the USEF Network at www.usefnetwork.com. The overall junior, senior and grand champions will be selected and honored. Opening ceremonies will include the Cavalia star Sylvia Zerbini and her Grande Liberte performance utilizing eight to ten Arabian horses. Those who plan to attend the show on Saturday night and watch Sylvia’s performance would be well advised to look into tickets quickly.
