Devon, PA – Kimberly Prince of Hume, Virginia, will defend her title in the $75,000 American Gold Cup, September 15-18, at the Devon show grounds. Prince, who competed at the Gold Cup last year as Kimberly Frey, won the Gold Cup on the mare, Marlou, and placed second in the Welcome Stake Friday evening on Couletto K James.

This year, Prince will compete in both the Welcome Stake and the Gold Cup on Couletto K James. Since last year’s Gold Cup, Prince has represented the United States in the first three Samsung Super League Nation’s Cup classes in Europe this spring, in which the United States placed first, second and fourth to lead the series. Most recently, Prince competed on the U.S. team that finished second by one point to Germany at the Hickstead Super League show in England and placed third in the Nations Cup at Dublin.

“I love the Gold Cup, it’s my favorite show,” said Prince. “I’m very excited to be coming back. I love the fact that the Gold Cup is an all-jumper show. That brings out the best in the riders. We have time to focus on our riding, because there’s only one ring, so that even if we’re not competing we can watch what the others are doing.”

Prince also won the Style award at the Gold Cup last year.
“I love winning the Style award,” she continued. “Both times I’ve showed at the Gold Cup, I’ve won the Style award. That comes from having trained under Katie Prudent (a top international rider and trainer). You don’t compromise your style when you ride under Katie.”

The Gold Cup has many special events for youngsters, and Saturday is Children’s Day, with pony rides and face painting. Children who take a drawing of one of their pets receive free admission on Saturday, with prizes awarded for winners of this contest. Children’s Day expands into Sunday this year, with pony rides available on Gold Cup day.

The Lincoln American Gold Cup, Sept. 15 – 18 at the Devon show grounds in Devon, Pa., is the third leg of show jumping’s Triple Crown, which includes the American Invitational, held in Tampa, Florida, which was won last April 2 by Beezie Madden on her Olympic mount, Authentic, and the AGA Championship, won last
November in Wellington, Florida, by Laura Kraut on Anthem.
Madden and Kraut were Prince’s teammates at Hickstead and Dublin. Kraut also finished second to Prince in last year’s Gold Cup.

The exciting all-jumper show includes, along with two grand prix classes, open speed, intermediate, junior, amateur, adult amateur and pony jumpers competing for over $150,000 total prize money.

Saturday evening features the $5,000 Speed Challenge, a unique class in which the highest placed open, amateur and junior jumpers from each of their previous speed competitions face each other for top honors. Ramiro Quintana of Southampton, New York, will defend his title in this event. Pony Jumpers open the Saturday evening performance at 6 p.m. These tiny mounts are terrific jumpers and are very exciting to watch.

The $500 Celebrity Dog Show on Saturday is one of the Gold Cup’s most popular events. Dogs are judged by their tricks or beauty or cuteness.

Boxes and reserved seats are available. Reserved seats cost $4 to $20, depending on the day. General admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5 to 12. Children under 5 are free. For tickets and information Call 610-964-9316 or 610-964-0550. Visit
