Eventing
The Dansko Fair Hill International kicked off the last chapter of the 2010 eventing season, with the USEF National CCI2* and CCI3* Eventing Championships. In the CCI2* Clark Montgomery took a strong lead from the beginning, with Loughan Glen he was first after dressage on a score of 45.3 and in fourth with Universe on a score of 49.2. Montgomery was foot-perfect over the Derek DiGrazia designed cross country track to maintain the lead with Kathryn Kraft and Holly Becker's Loughan Glen. With Jessica Montgomery's Universe, Montgomery added only 1.2 in time penalties to move into third place. Erin Sylvester and No Boundaries had one of the fastest rounds of the day and held onto second place adding nothing to their dressage score of 47.8. Montgomery stormed the final phase, jumping flawless with both horses to turn in two of only 16 double clear rounds. Loughan Glen was named Champion and Universe took home Reserve Champion honors. Veteran Phillip Dutton jumped up from seventh after the cross country to third on the strength of a clear show jumping round with Jan Byyny's Why Not.

On day one of the CCI3* Nate Chambers and Rolling Stone II put in a polished performance in the dressage ring to lead on a score of 46.6. Hannah Burnett was the only other rider to get break 50 with a score of 49.4 aboard St. Barths. On cross country day the top two placings remained unchanged as Chambers had a confident trip and finished four seconds within the time. Burnett had the fastest round of the day to hold on to second place.

After a double clear show jumping round to finish on her dressage score, Burnett accomplished something no one has ever done, the 2009 National CCI2* Champion claimed the 2010 USEF National CCI3* Eventing Championship 12 months later with the same horse. Dutton, riding Fernhill Eagle for Rebecca Broussard and Emery Warren in the 10-year-old Irish Sport Horse's first CCI3*, had only one rail down to be named Reserve Champion. Kristin Schmolze and her veteran Cavaldi were third. Chambers had five rails down to slip to sixth place.

Across the Atlantic in Holland, four U.S. eventing riders contested the Boekelo CCI3* and produced a second place team result behind the Germans. Tiana Coudray led the U.S. effort with Ringwood Magister. Competing in their first overseas competition, they were sixth after the dressage on a score of 46.2, added 7.6 time faults on the challenging cross country course and then jumped a beautiful clear show jumping round to maintain their sixth place position.

Will Faudree was the next highest placed American with Andromaque. The pair made up some serious ground after the dressage with the fastest cross country round of the day on Saturday and had the very last fence down in the show jumping to move up from 51st after the dressage to 12th in the final standings.

The third score to count in the U.S. Team effort was Sinead Halpin on Manior de Carneville who finished 21st out of more than 100 starters. Doug Payne and Running Order had two refusals at the first water on the cross country course that kept them out of the placings, but with only one rail down in show jumping they showed plenty of promise for the future.

Jumping
At the prestigious Pennsylvania National Horse Show the Randolph College/USEF National Junior Jumper Championships took place across three days of intense competition. Following Thursday's Welcome Class, competition got under way Friday with the Randolph College/USEF Prix des States Team Championships. On a night when clear rounds were hard to come by, the Zone 2 team of Meg O'Mara and Sinatra IV, Katie Dinan and Vancouver, Karen Polle and Cachette Z, and Reed Kessler and Flight made light work of the Steve Stephens designed course turning in seven clear rounds to win on a score of zero. The 2009 Prix des States champion, Zone 10, represented by Jocelyn Neff, Audrey Coulter, Lindsay Douglas and Alec Lawler had two costly rails in round two and finished second on nine faults. Zone 5 was third on 20 faults.

Saturday evening 15 riders competed in the Individual Championships. Scores were carried from Thursday's Welcome Class as well as both rounds of team competition. Polle carried zero faults coming into the individual competition and was tied for first with Taylor Land aboard Karonda V Schlosslihof C of Zone 4. Both riders put in impressive efforts over the course resulting in a jump-off for the Gold medal. After Land had two unfortunate rails down, Polle executed a near perfect course, knocking only the last rail to become the Randolph College/USEF National Junior Jumper Individual Champion. Teammate O'Mara took home the Bronze medal.
