The American Holsteiner Horse Association (AHHA) is celebrating the Holsteiner's success in the Olympics as the fall approvals tour kicks off. The Olympic Games in Hong Kong was a big success for the Holsteiner breed. Nine medals went to the Holsteiner horses: four Gold, one Silver and four Bronze.
Germany took the Individual Gold and the Team Gold in Olympic eventing thanks to Hinrich Romeike and his extraordinary Holsteiner gelding, Marius, by Condrieu xx out of a Laurin mare.
Out of the 30 German Warmbloods competing in showjumping, 19 were Holsteiners, three were Hannoverians, three were Westphalians, two were Oldenburgs, two were Bavarian and one was Hessen.
The Holsteiner bloodlines also appeared in the dressage. Steffen Peters rode for the USA on Ravel by Cantango, a son of Contender. From Korea, Choi Jun-Sang rode Cinque Cento (Cambridge x Liostro, by Landmeister). Denmark’s Anne van Olst rode Exquis Clearwater by (Carpaccio x Limebrand). England’s Jane Gregory rode Lucky Star (Lucky Light), and Sweden’s Tinne Wilhelmson rode Solos Carex (Castro x Lagano).
This year's approval tour will feature 18 sites across the U.S. and Canada, including bicoastal stallion selection sites attended by the Hosteiner Verband breeding director Dr. Thomas Nissen. Visit the AHHA website at www.Holsteiner.com, to check the approvals schedule to attend a site near you.
