American Saddlebred Horse Association Awards 2008 Scholarships

by By Jessica Fisher | 7/23/2008

Each year, the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) honors several outstanding junior members for their high achievements in academic success, extracurricular activities, and most importantly for their involvement with and dedication to the American Saddlebred Horse.

This year, five ASHA Scholarships, totaling $5,000 each, will be awarded, including the Youth to Youth Scholarship. The Youth to Youth Scholarship is given to an individual who has participated in ASHA Youth activities, shown initiative in broadening their knowledge of horses beyond the confines of the show ring, and exhibits a commitment to well-rounded horsemanship. Funding for the Youth to Youth Scholarship is in part based on donations from individuals and youth clubs. These donations are the result of youth club fund-raising ventures. This scholarship provides an opportunity for Saddlebred youth to support other individuals much like themselves.

The American Saddlebred Association of Alabama also provides a $2,500 scholarship, making a total of six scholarships to be awarded. Presentation of the scholarship awards will be made on Friday night, August 22, at the World’s Championship Horse Show in Louisville, KY.

The 2008 ASHA Scholarship recipients are: Kristin Goforth of Chattanooga, TN; Brian Dowty of Spencerville, IN; Reagan Huguley of Birmingham, AL; Elizabeth Peterson of North Aurora, IL; Kelsea Rookard of Nicholasville, KY, who was the recipient of the Youth to Youth Scholarship; and Ashton Hale of Columbiana, AL, recipient of the ASHA of Alabama Scholarship.
