Alfred University in Alfred, NY, dedicated The Bromeley-Daggett Equestrian and the Maris Cuneo Equstrrian Park on October 20, 2006. The 400-acre center is the result of significant contributions by Catherine Bromeley Dagget and Peter Cuneo, as well as several other alumnae.

The center supports the Alfred University (AU) equestrian program which provides education in all equestrian disciplines including dressage, arena jumping, cross-country, Western disciplines and driving. AU has active equestrian teams.

Located near the main campus, the center features a large indoor arena and barn with space for 54 stalls to accommodate the 40 university school horses and 14 private horses. There are 40 acres for turn out and 5 miles of riding trails with a new cross-country course in the planning stages.

Alfred University educates 2,400 students and was founded in 1839. Jill Paxton is the director and came to the university after many years of experience at other universities including University of Delaware, Salisbury State University and North Texas University.

Paxton was appointed director of the AU equestrian program in 2005, and leads efforts to expand and develop the program and will oversee operations of the university’s new equestrian center. Paxton has an extensive background in training and showing horses and teaching horsemanship. Before arriving at AU, she spent four years at Paxton Performance Horses in Solon, IA, where she trained horses for show and teaching amateur riders.
