When Eleanor Pieters imported Ares Ter Wilgen Z (Atomic Z x Bellisima Ter Wilgen Z) in February, she never imagined just how much they would accomplish in such a short time. From competing at the 2025 FEI North American Youth Championships in Traverse City, Mich, to gearing up for the 2025 Platinum Performance/USEF Talent Search Finals – East, this duo has quickly become one to watch.

Ares Ter Wilgen Z, better known as “Harry” will make his debut at the 2025 Talent Search Finals, after competing at the Gotham North/FEI North American Youth Show Jumping Championships, earlier this summer. Pieters says she knew he was something special from the start. She was drawn to his “businesslike attitude” and natural desire to please, which instantly set the tone for their partnership.

“He is a super confidence boosting horse,” she said. “I hadn’t jumped 1.40m before I got him, and he really opened up a whole new chapter for me which I didn’t think was possible.”

While Harry is still somewhat new, Pieters is confident he’ll enjoy the switch in atmosphere at Talent Search Finals– East. After competing at NAYC, the duo shifted gears to focus on their preparation for the annual championship hosted at USET Headquarters in Gladstone, N.J. “We have been practicing a lot of gymnastics and really refining our flatwork,” she explained. “No matter what ring he’s in, Harry knows his job and always performs above my expectations. He is the same at home or in the show ring. He’s so reliable. You know exactly what he is going to be like every time.”

At home, Harry’s personality shines through in a different way. Outside of the ring, he’s less professional and more of a foodie. “He always wants treats, no snack is safe around him,” Pieters laughed. “I honestly think he prefers going to shows alone just so he can soak up all the attention from me and my trainer.”

Harry’s daily routine is a blend of consistency and variety. His mornings start with turnout in the sunshine, and when Pieters arrives at the barn, the two mix things up with trail rides, flat work, or jump schools. “I like to change our schedule up,” says Pieters. “He is more relaxed that way and I enjoy spending time doing different things with him.”

Going forward, Pieters plans to continue progressing with Harry, with eyes on the different championships within the U.S. Jumping Pathway. “I want to get more consistent in the bigger jumper classes,” Pieters said. The duo plan on competing in USEF Junior Jumper National Championship in the upcoming weeks following Talent Search Finals - East. “I’m really look forward to getting stronger alongside Harry and eventually competing in some FEI level competitions.”
