  3. FAQ: US Equestrian Lettering Program

FAQ: US Equestrian Lettering Program

1. What type of US Equestrian membership do I need to participate in this program?

If you compete at US Equestrian licensed competitions, you should apply for a USEF Competing Junior Membership. If you do not compete at US Equestrian competitons, you can join as a non-competing Subscriber for $25.

2. What is the application fee?

$20 per program year. An application and fee must be submitted for each year of participation.

3. What happens after I send in my application?

After USEF recieves your application, an email will be sent to you with information about the program.

4. What is the time frame to meet the hour and competition requirements?

Each program year runs from June 1 through May 31.

5. What is the deadline to submit all the required materials?

There is not a deadline except for graduating seniors. All documentation for graduating seniors must be recieved in the USEF office by June 15.

6. If I have already met the requirements of the program, do I have to wait until May 31 to submit everything?

No. We encourage you to submit your log or competition records and proof of enrollment as soon as you have met all the requirements. There is an enormous increase in submissions recieved at USEF near the end of the program year which greatly increases the processing time up to two weeks. Submit your documentation early for faster processing.

7. Can I send my documentation in separately?

Documentation can be submitted online whenever it is completed, but please note that we will not review any documents until all required documents for the year have been submitted.

8. What do I send to provide proof of enrollment in school?

Current report card, current transcript, current mid-term report card or certification of enrollment in a home schooling program. Verification must include students name, institution name/homeschool designation, grade and grade year. Please black out your social security number if it appears on your transcript before submitting the document.

9. If I choose to submit a riding log, how many hours does the program require?

100 hours. Which can include riding, lessons, lunging, driving, vaulting, hacking, trail riding, ground driving, riding at competitions, etc. Only time spent actively working with a horse will count. The following cannot be used towards the hour requirement: barn chores, grooming, tacking up, stall cleaning, cleaning tack, time driving to competitions, time spent at competitions when you are not riding, etc. The hour log must be completed in either a daily or weekly format with no more than 5 hours per day.

10. Can I use hours or competitions from before I signed up for the program?

Yes, you can use any hours or competitions during the program year (June 1 - May 31), regardless of when you signed up.

11. What are the competition requirements?

Students must compete in three different competitions during the program year. Any show that is organized by a horse show organization or club will count towards the requirement. Example: USEF, AQHA, 4-H, Pony Club, IEA, any state or local horse association shows, schooling shows, rodeos, drill team competitions, polo matches, etc.

12. Can I apply for previous years in school?

Yes, we do allow students to sign up retroactively as long as they are in grades 5-12. For example, a sophmore just finding out about the program can also sign up for their 5-9 grade years. Students are still required to apply for each year and provide verification for each year they are enrolled in to meet the requirements for that year.

13. How do I submit documentation?

Online: https://members.usef.org/lettering/manage/dashboard

14. When will I receive my free Letterman patch and year pin?

You will recieve an email after you submit your documents either approving the submission or requesting additional information. If your submission is approved, you will recieve an email with your Certificate of Achievement and within 2-4 weeks you will receive the appropriate pins/patches in the mail.

15. Do I get a Letterman patch every time I complete a year in the program?

No, you only recieve a patch if it was your first year completed in Middle or High School.

16. Who can I contact with questions about the program?

Visit www.usef.org/lettering or email [email protected] or call 859-258-2472
