About the Young Rider Program:
The US Saddle Seat Equitation Young Riders Teams were created by US Equestrian with the purpose to develop riders for future Saddle Seat World Cup competitions. During years that the Saddle Seat World Cup competition is not held, members of the Young Riders Teams will be eligible to represent the United States in other international competitions, whether at home or abroad. Each team will be made up of six riders in both the three- and five-gaited sections.
Unlike the selection process for the US Saddle Seat World Cup Team, riders do not have to attend live tryouts to be selected for the US Saddle Seat Equitation Young Rider Teams. Instead, selection will be based on an application and riding video.
The competition format is comparable to the Saddle Seat World Cup consisting of four segments, completed in two phases: rail work where the athletes compete as a group, and then in individual workouts. Each athlete competes on horses supplied by the host competition-a true test of their riding ability.
