Darrell resides in Edmond, Okla. and is the Chief Operating Officer of the Pinto Horse Association of America, of which he took over managing operations in 2003. As an academic, he attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, received a B.S. in Animal Science from Oklahoma Panhandle State University, and comepted in calf roping and on the Livestock Judging Team at Oklahoma State University. While working on his Master's at OSU, he developed his breeding, training, and showing business. Darrell became involved with the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association as well, starting as an active volunteer and eventually becoming the affiliate's President. He was the Youth Advisor for about five years, started the Youth Judging Team, and aided the Youth Judging Contest at the AQHA Youth World Championship Show, held then in Tulsa, Okla. In total, he was a horse show judge for 30 years for 16 associations. Before the PTHA, Darrell was a consultant for Ed Roberts with the APHA, Joe Grissom for the PTHA, and Robert Klentford for the APHC. He also served as the Chairman of the International AQHA Committee and helped start the International Equine Judges Seminar. He has received the OSU Animal Science Distinguished Service Award and the APHA Judges Emeritus Award, as well as being inducted into the PTHA Judges Hall of Fame, the NEO A&M Aggie Hall of Fame, and the OQHA Hall of Fame.
