Steven Smith is the managing partner of the Colorado Springs office and a Co-Leader of the BCLP Global Sports, Media & Entertainment Group. His practice focuses on sports law, including extensive work in the U.S. and international Olympic movement, collegiate sports, naming rights, sponsorships, licensing agreements, stadium operations, television and media contracts, and representing professional leagues and teams. Mr. Smith has been recognized as a "Leader in His Field" for Sports Law by Chambers USA since 2011 and by the Sports Business Journal as one of the leading sports attorneys since 2017.
Mr. Smith is recognized as one of the leading attorneys in the Olympic movement in the United States and internationally. He currently represents the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, more than 25 National Governing Bodies (including USA Basketball, USA Swimming, USA Track and Field, United States Equestrian Federation, and USA Wrestling among others) and eight International Sports Federations. His work includes advising on athlete safeguarding/SafeSport, governance matters, athlete eligibility issues, selection procedures for Olympic and other teams, policies and procedures, and audit compliance. He also specializes in athlete eligibility and other arbitrations before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, USOPC Section 9 Arbitrations, USOPC Section 10 Arbitrations, and internal NGB hearings within the Olympic movement.

He leads a team specializing in the delivery of customized risk management and insurance solutions for a diverse range of clients including national governing bodies (NGBs), international federations, professional sports leagues/teams, world class venues, global competitions, sports foundations, and health & fitness organizations.
With over 30 years of industry experience, Randy has held senior risk management, insurance brokerage, and consulting roles, focusing on amateur and professional sports, entertainment & sports broadcasts, and venue operational risks. Widely recognized as a thought leader in the strategic design and implementation of risk management and insurance programs for sports and entertainment organizations, Randy is a frequent speaker to governing bodies, executive boards and industry associations on emerging risks, insurance industry changes, claims trends and best practices to manage risk.
Randy holds a BBA in Risk Management & Insurance from The University of Georgia and is a licensed broker for Property & Casualty and Accident & Health insurance in all 50 states.
