Gelvera made her FEI competitive debut in 2019 with U.S. jumping athlete Alise Oken, who was based in Europe at the time. She spent the 2020/2021 winter season in the U.S. with Nicholas Dello Joio, but otherwise has remained with Oken for her entire career to date. 

Together, “Vera” and Oken were part of the winning U.S. team at the 2023 FEI Jumping Nations Cup CSIO3* in Uggerhaine, Denmark, and earned their first individual win at the international level later that year in the CSIO3* Grand Prix Table A at Drammen, Norway. 

In 2024, Vera and Oken were part of the U.S. teams for the Longines League of Nations CSIO5* legs in Abu Dhabi UAE, and Rome, Italy. That year, they earned top ten finishes in CSI4* competition in Chantilly, France and the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup qualifier in Traverse City, Mich.
