Zone 2, 7, 8 Emerson Burr Horsemanship Grant Tests Close Out Season

by Samantha Robinson | Sep 2, 2022, 12:08 PM

The Emerson Burr Horsemanship Grant Test will be conducted at three remaining United States Hunter Jumper Association Zone competitions for the 2022 competition year. Zones, 2, 7, and 8 will host the testing in September and October.

Junior riders competing in pony classes are eligible to participate in this program. Participants are divided into four age groups: eight and under, nine to 11, 12-14, and 15-17. Each participant will take a short, written multiple-choice test on horsemanship, which will contain no more than 20 questions. Individuals will be awarded the grant based on the results of the exam and their response to a possible short essay question.

Zone 7 participants will take the test at the St. Louis National Charity Horse Show on Saturday, September 17. Participants should check in with the show office. The St. Louis National Charity show benefits the Therapeutic Horsemanship program at TREE House of Greater St. Louis and the Stray Rescue of St. Louis. The all volunteer-based board likes to keep up the competition traditions, as this show has been running since 1904.

The Autumn in the Rockies I competition will be the Zone 8 host. Testing will take place between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 10. Participants will need to see Denise in the horse show office for information and to sign up for the test. All participants at Zone 8 will receive a gift bag and are welcome to attend the Ice Cream Social hosted by Kong Equine from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Zone 2 horsemanship testing will take place at the Pennsylvania National on Friday, October 14. More information about the testing time and location will be available at the competition.

All Emerson Burr Horsemanship Grant winners will receive a $100 grant and a $50 Dover Gift Card from USEF. Please visit the Emerson Burr Horsemanship Grant program page for more information.
