Don’t miss your chance to vote for your “Favorite USEF Breed Competition.” The idea behind this contest is to award and promote the USEF licensed breed competitions for their efforts in running a show so well that exhibitors want to call it their favorite. Also, this contest gives exhibitors the opportunity to provide positive feedback about the competitions to the USEF.

The competition rules include that you must be a USEF member to vote, and you must have participated in the 2009 USEF competition you are voting for as an official, trainer, rider/driver, handler or owner. Also, you may only vote once at https://www.usef.org/_AUAIFrames/FavoriteBreed/default.aspx or you can find the link on the top right of any of the breed home pages at www.usef.org to vote as well.

2009 International Friesian Show Horse Association World and Grand National Championship Horse Show Features Top Competition

For the third year in a row, the National Equestrian Centre in Lake St. Louis, MO, was home for a week to some of the best Friesian horses in the world. Judges for the International Friesian Show Horse Association (IFSHA) World and Grand National Championship Horse Show were Lois Heyerdahl for dressage and sport horse in-hand divisions while the carriage pleasure driving horses were pinned by Audrey Bostwick. Three USEF Friesian judges—Gary Mullen, Todd Trushel and Dr. Walter de la Brosse—officiated the balance of halter and performance classes with many a unanimous decision between them. Patty Littmann was the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) Technical Delegate for the show, and Shirley Nowak the USEF Steward.

The Show management team of Nancy Nathanson (secretary) and Gareth A. Selwood (manager) were at the helm for the fourth time in as many years and have already been asked back again for 2010.

More members volunteered than ever before, helping bring a great family atmosphere to all of the weeks events, which could not have happened without them and the many sponsors, patrons and vendors.

Celebrating 15th Year at Georgia International Horse Park with the Atlanta Fall Classic Opener

The opening week of the Fall Classics was a cornucopia of excitement, beginning with the Welcome Jumper Classic and a star-studded field of 34 competitors taking on course designer Allen Rheinheimer’s sprawling 12-obstacle, 15-effort first-round layout. Given the tight time limit of 76 seconds to navigate twisty turns, a triple, and double combination it’s not too surprising that a mere 11 made it to the jump-off round. Among them Olympic veteran Norman Dello Joio with two mounts, the Wembley Farms, Inc., entry Notre Star in a clear first-round time of 72.671 and wife Jeanie’s KLM Jimmy finishing quick and clear in 72.393.

Based on speed, the abbreviated seven-fence [eight efforts] was a serpentine design stretching from one corner of the vast arena to the other. Only two riders came away with double-clear rounds—the afternoon’s victor, Norman Dello Joio, with Notre Star in 42.266 and Wembley barn mate Clementine Goutal riding the Senarmont Management SA-owned Wintina Deux in a time of 42.279. Remaining results for the class were: third-place Tommy Feigel with Bling It On for owners Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Waters with two faults in 49.336, fourth place was Norman Dello Joio with KLM Jimmy for owner Jeanie Dello Joio with four faults in 41.726, and the fifth position to Kyle King and RMW San Friese for owner Rocky Mountain Warmbloods with four faults in 42.051.

In an effort to help equestrian enthusiasts and competitors save money in a tight economy, and to promote eco-friendly horse transportation, the United States Equestrian Federation presents the Ride Share Program on ClubEquestrian.com. Often the logistics of long-distance travel is an unforeseen roadblock in the path to equine events. This tool allows equine enthusiasts and competitors to post information about open trailer spots, as well as inquire about rides. Information such as where a trailer is leaving from, open trailer space and potential lay-overs will be readily available.

Check out the Ride Share Program at www.clubequestrian.com/tools/rideshare.

Pennfield Feed Now Available in Southern California

Every two years, while the selection committees ponder who will represent the United States, another selection process is under way to determine who will feed our horses while they represent our country. For the last four games—2002 Jerez World Equestrian Games (WEG), 2004 Athens Olympics, 2006 Aachen WEG, and 2008 Beijing Olympics—Pennfield Feed was the feed of choice for our equestrian teams, because just like them, Pennfield demonstrates the highest level of consistent quality.
