Singer Wins USEF National Pairs Championship

World Class drivers and horses battled it out for the USEF National Pairs Championship in Pennsylvania Sunday, but a local woman beat the out-of-towners, claiming the title in her own backyard. West Grove native Lisa Singer came through victorious, surpassing a record number of competitors to take home the national title. Set apart by less than five points, Singer drove to the finish amid screaming fans and family, with a combined score of 121.96 points. For the full story, click here.


Three Olympians Will Compete This Weekend for U.S. Super League Team

Two members of the 2004 Olympic Silver medal winning United States Equestrian Team in Show Jumping and an Individual Bronze medal winner from the 1992 Olympic Games will compete in the final Samsung Super League competition this weekend in Barcelona. Chris Kappler of Pittstown, NJ, who also won the individual bronze medal in Athens, and Massachusetts native Peter Wylde, now residing in The Netherlands, will join veteran Norman Dello Joio and Judy Garofalo, both of Wellington, FL, to represent the United States in one of the year's most prestigious international competitions. Kappler was the only show jumping equestrian in Athens to win both a Team and Individual medal. For Garofalo, this is her first year of Nations Cup competition, and she has proven more than up to the challenge, competing on 2004 Super League Nations Cup teams at La Baule, Rome, Lucerne, Rotterdam.

Borrowed Horse Helps Rider Take the Title at USEF Dressage Seat Medal Finals

The second-annual USEF Dressage Seat Medal Finals were held during MSEDA Dressage at the Park in Lexington, KY, September 10-12. A record number of 26 junior dressage riders from across the country competed in their respective age divisions of 13 & under and 14 to 18 years of age.

Royal Prince and Revolution Win Top Honors at 2004 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage Championships

An outstanding field of five- and six-year-old horses held audiences captive at the Kentucky Horse Park over the weekend. September 10-12, horses and riders from across the nation gathered for the 2004 USEF/Markel Young Horse Dressage National Championships in Lexington, KY.. Nineteen five-year-olds and 15 six-year-olds, including a record 12 American-bred horses, vied for the prize—the Dr. Edgar Hotz Memorial Trophy, which commemorates the top young horses in the country.

Hampton Classic Horse Show’s $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix to be Broadcast on TV

The 29th Annual Hampton Classic Horse Show’s feature event, the $150,000 Prudential Financial Grand Prix, will be broadcast on Fox Sports New York at 4 p.m. EDT on Saturday, September 25.

In the Grand Prix, Darragh Kerins of Ireland, along with his horse Nabucco, rode to victory. Kerins was one of three entries from a starting field of 26 to qualify for the tiebreaking jump-off by riding without penalty over the 14-jump, first-round course designed by Olympic veteran Conrad Homfeld. Kerins completed the eight-jump tiebreaker course fault-free in 47.29 seconds on his nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood.

Miniature Horse National Championship Show in Tulsa Offers Family Fun and Free Admission

The American Miniature Horse Registry (AMHR) announced today that free admission will be offered to all spectators interested in attending the 2004 American Miniature Horse Registry National Horse Show to be held September 16-23 at the Expo Square Exhibition Center in Tulsa, OK. The AMHR National Horse Show is the equivalent of the Super Bowl for Miniature Horses and attracts top Miniature Horses from throughout the United States. The show is the largest Miniature Horse show held to date. Over 1,500 entries will compete for national championship titles over the eight days of competition.

The United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation has announced the cancellation of its Fifth Annual Golf Outing scheduled for Monday, October 4. The Golf Outing, sponsored by Paul Miller, Inc., was to be held at the Hamilton Farm Golf Club located on the same property as the USET Foundation Headquarters and Olympic Training Center in Gladstone, NJ. The cancellation was necessitated by scheduling difficulties.

Los Angeles International Jumping Festival Features a Full Slate of Events

Many of the West's top horses and riders will converge on the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, September 22-26, 2004, for a week of top hunter/jumper competition. The $40,000 Grand Prix of Los Angeles will run on Saturday evening, September 25, and a capacity crowd is expected for this American Grandprix Association event and qualifier for the 2005 World Cup Finals. The World Cup Finals will be held in Las Vegas, NV, next spring.

Florida Veterinarians Battle Hurricane Season with Help from AAEP Foundation

With Florida veterinarians and horse owners dealing with the arrival of Hurricane Ivan and still struggling with power outages caused by Hurricanes Charley and Frances, the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) Foundation has donated $3,000 to help supply area veterinarians with satellite telephones. Satellite phone capability will ensure communication between area veterinarians, members of veterinary management assistant teams deployed to the area, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and local law enforcement.

Week in Review Competition Results for September 2004



The United States Equestrian Federation, Inc. (USEF), as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, reining, show jumping, and vaulting, as well as 20 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation has over 80,000 members and recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards and technical delegates who officiate at these shows.
