Most Comprehensive Horse Study Ever Reveals a Nearly $40 Billion Impact on the U.S.
The horse industry in the United States contributes $39
billion in direct economic impact to the U.S. economy and supports 1.4 million
jobs on a full-time basis, according to a new study released by the
American Horse Council (AHC). When indirect and induced spending are included,
the industry’s economic impact reaches $102 billion. The study also estimates the horse population in this country has reached 9.2 million.

USEF Launches New Outreach Program; Sends Staff to Work for Competition Organizers
As competition organizers and show managers continue to push forward in the 2005 competition season, some USEF employees will be rolling their sleeves up to work with them. It’s part of a new outreach program, designed to build a productive bridge between the USEF office, show organizers and competitors. In addition to sharing the load for a few days, USEF staff will be able to assess the needs of organizers, and in turn, better assist them in daily USEF operations.

Luhmühlen Talent Tour a Success for U.S. Riders
A group of U.S. eventers has returned from Germany after competing in the Luhmühlen CCI Four-Star, June 15-19, the first CCI four-star to take place on continental Europe. Up against stiff competition from European riders trying to qualify for the upcoming European Championships in Blenheim, England, the four USEF-sponsored Talent Tour riders joined several individual U.S. riders for a positive experience abroad—just the learning experience that was intended for the Talent Tour.

U.S. Team Announced for Third Leg of 2005 Samsung Super League
The United States Equestrian Federation has announced the team for the third European show jumping tour—a series of three stops on the 2005 Samsung Super League circuit. This team will compete at CSIO Hickstead, Great Britain (July 28-31), CSIO Dublin, Ireland (August 3-7) and CSIO Aachen, Germany (August 23-28).

United States Dressage Federation Celebrates Groundbreaking
The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the USDF National Education Center on Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at the Kentucky Horse Park. The organization's president, Dr. Samuel Barish, stated, "I believe that this is the most significant event in the history of USDF. We are looking forward to being included on a daily basis in an equestrian community environment where we can work effectively on behalf of dressage and our members.”

Vermont Summer Festival Has Huge Economic Impact on Vermont Tourism
The Vermont Summer Festival, the largest ‘AA’ rated hunter-jumper horse show held in New England, has a huge economic impact on the state of Vermont with approximately $15 million spent throughout the duration of the five-week competition. With approximately 1,200 horses competing each week at the Vermont Summer Festival, which will run July 13 to August 14 in East Dorset, VT, and approximately 3,000 people related to the horse show visiting the area on a daily basis, the impact on the local hotel and restaurant industry is considerable.

Winsome Adante Named 2005 Limited Edition Breyer Model Horse by USET Foundation
The USET Foundation is pleased to announce that Winsome Adante, owned by Plain Dealing Farm of Scottsville, VA, and ridden by Kim Severson, has been chosen as the 2005 USET Foundation Breyer model horse. Winsome Adante, an 11-year-old English-bred Thoroughbred gelding, is the tenth Breyer model in this popular series.
Winsome Adante, better known as Dan, won his first three-day event in 2000 and went on to become one of the most decorated three-day eventing horses in history. Dan won England’s prestigious Blenheim CCI*** in 2001 and his first Rolex Kentucky CCI**** in 2002. He and Severson also helped clinch the Team Gold at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain.

2006 National Youth Horse Leaders Symposium to be Hosted by the University of Florida
The University of Florida is hosting the 29th annual National Youth Horse Leaders Symposium, a production of the American Youth Horse Council (AYHC), the umbrella organization for the youth horse industry. The 2006 event will boast more than two-dozen internationally and nationally respected teachers assembled to share their keys to successful youth horse programming. The 29th annual National Youth Horse Leaders Symposium will be held February 3-5, and offers take-home tools to teach youth about safe and effective horsemanship. From classroom to the tack room, attendees will find resources, referrals and networking to improve their ability to help kids connect through horses.

New Youth Award Developed by the ASHA to Promote Saddlebred Participation
The American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) has developed a new high-point ASHA Youth Award to recognize the hardest working and most active youth members in the industry. Catch Top Young Riders at the 2005 CN North American Young Riders’ Championships, Presented by Adequan
Talented young equestrians from across North America will vie for prestigious individual and team medals at the 2005 CN North American Young Riders’ Championships (NAYRC), presented by Adequan, at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington, VA, July 26-31.
The competition challenges the best young riders from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands in the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage and eventing. Approximately 300 riders, ages 16-21, will compete for individual as well as team medals in this exciting FEI event.

The USEF is now accepting nominations for the 2005 USEF Lifetime Achievement Award. The USEF Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes an individual whose lifetime experience and accomplishments exemplify uncommon devotion to the sport of competition with horses and whose equestrian career and horsemanship have continually elevated the sport’s excellence. This year’s honoree will be presented the Jimmy A. Williams trophy during the 2006 USEF Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.
