Devon Horse Show and Country Fair Wrap-Up

Laura Chapot took top honors at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, winning the Open Jumper Championship on Bradberry with 30 points and also taking the Leading Open Jumper Rider title for the fourth time in six years, and the fifth time overall. Along with her four wins in the Open Jumper division that counted towards the Leading Rider title, Chapot also won two six-year-old classes and a seven-year-old class for an unprecedented seven jumper wins at Devon.

The Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, which was designated a USEF Heritage Competition for the first time in 2010, set attendance records at its 114th renewal. There were 101,374 people in paid attendance, with 9,053 paid attendance on Grand Prix night, Thursday, June 3. These figures do not include all those who received complimentary passes, press passes or exhibitor, trainer and owner passes.

Chapot’s student, Madeline Cox, also won an Amateur Owner Jumper class and finished Reserve Champion.

“Winning never gets old,” said Chapot. “In this sport, you’re riding on top, and you think you’re a genius, then next thing you’re on the ground.”

New Vaulting Exhibit Opens at Kentucky Horse Park

The Bluegrass Vaulting Academy with the collaboration of the International Museum of the Horse at the Kentucky Horse Park presented the grand opening of the Vaulting Exhibit on June 6.

Vaulting incorporates horses, sport, music, excitement and fun with the performance of gymnastics and dance-like poses on a moving horse. The word “vaulting” comes from the French "La Voltige," which originated during the Renaissance, when it was a form of riding drill and agility exercise for knights and noblemen. Modern vaulting was developed in post-war Germany to introduce children to equestrian sports. The Vaulting Exhibit features an in-depth look into the world of vaulting. It includes a vaulting barrel where visitors can try out vaulting moves and showcases vaulting on one TV and two digital photo frames.

EV173.2 Corrected in the USEF Online Rule Book

At USEF’s 2009 Annual Meeting, the following rule change was proposed with a 12/1/09 effective date:

EV173 Technical Delegate. [Chapter EV. Eventing Division] Add:
2. DUTIES.
i. The Technical Delegate shall submit all of the information (course maps, measurements, distances, time requirements and safety recommendations) received from the Course Designer, with the Technical Delegate's report. This will become part of the official record of the Event. See EV 175.2d.

It was disapproved by the Eventing and Licensed Officials Committees and ultimately disapproved by the Board of Directors. However, due to a clerical error it was added into the 2010 Rule Book as an approved rule change.

The 2010 online Rule Book has now been corrected, and an errata list is available that is updated as we find and correct errors in the Rule Book.

Remember, the online Rule Book is always the most up-to-date location for the rules, and it is updated whenever USEF corrects errors such as this one. Please update your USB flash drive if you have one.

The United States Para-Equestrian Association Announces 501(c)(3) Status

The United States Para-Equestrian Association (USPEA) would like to announce that it is now a 501(c)(3) public charitable organization. The USPEA provides programs, clinics, and competition opportunities for athletes with physical disabilities. Riders compete under the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) rules during their competitions and many of the athletes compete at the highest level of their sport. Becoming a 501(c)(3) was a momentous occasion for the USPEA. This status will encourage donors, supporters, and equestrian enthusiasts to supply funding for the United States Para-Equestrians.

The show season of 2010 is going to be exciting for the USPEA as it will be the first year that the Para-Dressage discipline will compete on the world stage at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY. As the number of Para-Equestrian participants expands and more of the public becomes aware of this unique equestrian discipline, the Para-Equestrians will continue to need more support. The USPEA would like to see this type of benefaction continue through the World Games, the 2012 London Olympics, and beyond.
