USEF Show Jumping Short List for 2006 World Equestrian Games and Samsung Super League Tours Announced

Following the completion of the USEF Selection Trials on Saturday, the USEF announced the 10 horse-and-rider combinations on the short list for the U.S show jumping team to compete at the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany, this August. According to the selection procedures, the top six finishers from the Selection Trials are placed on the short list, along with four subjective horse-and-rider combinations recommended by the USEF Selectors to the Show Jumping High Performance Committee and then approved by the Ad Hoc Committee on Selections.

Engle Hits a Double, Placing First and Second on Her Two Horses Overall after Trial #4 and Trial #5 of the World Equestrian Games Selection Trials in Wellington, FL

At the completion of the World Equestrian Games Selection Trials, the gutsy Margie Engle owns the top two spots based on the placings after five trials, despite only placing fourth and fifth in Trial #4 and fourth in Trial #5. Engle placed first overall after all five trials on Quervo Gold with only 11 faults and second overall on Hidden Creek’s Wapino with only 17 faults. Two of the 10 total possible spots were wild cards that already belong to Beezie Madden on Authentic and McLain Ward on Sapphire.

The USEF has announced that the Ad Hoc Committee on Selections has approved the two horse-and-rider combinations to represent the United States at the FEI Dressage World Cup, April 20-23 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

USEF and AQHA Excited about New Bracket Style Varsity Equestrian National Championship

Bracket-style national championships are well-known in the NCAA basketball world and will soon be second nature in the NCAA equestrian world as well. The Varsity Equestrian Steering Committee recently announced that the 2006 Varsity Equestrian National Championship will take on the bracket-style format, a welcomed change by fans, competitors and coaches. USEF Announces 2006 Outreach Grant Recipients

The USEF has finalized the list of breed events that will receive outreach grants through the new program announced in January. A total of $125,000 has been budgeted in 2006 for grants to financially challenged breed competitions which meet the grant requirements and are approved by the USEF. This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum grant is $1,000.

2006 Atlanta Spring Classics Kick Off Big in Conyers

The thunder of hooves has been shaking the ground daily since over 1,000 horses stormed into the Georgia International Horse Park for two weeks of USEF AA-rated events hosted by the Classic Company. Kicking the event off was legendary grand prix rider Joe Fargis aboard Edgar 12, for owners Mary B. Schwab and Oeji Farm, winning the first Lucky Sevens Welcome Stake sponsored by EMO Insurance.

Florida Horse Park Features Month of Firsts in April

The Florida Horse Park will be having a month of firsts come April. It will be the first time an internationally recognized combined driving event will be held on the grounds, the first time a show jumping competition will be held, the first time an internationally recognized two-star eventing competition will take place there, and the first time polo tournaments will be held. Competitors from at least five countries will be at these events, two of which are sanctioned by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI).

Molly Talla Wins $50,000 World Cup Grand Prix at the Palms Classic Horse Show

With the only clean round in the jump-off, Molly Talla won the $50,000 World Cup Grand Prix, presented by Antares Saddlery, on Camaron Hills Shanroe, owned by Camaron Hills Farm of Temecula, CA, at the Second Annual Palms Classic Horse Show CSI-W to Benefit Casa de Amparo.

Traverse City, MI, to Host Five USEF-Recognized Events

Hundreds of highly trained horses will be descending upon Traverse City, MI, for a three-week USEF-recognized hunter, jumper and dressage festival slated for July 12-30, 2006. A total of five recognized events will take place over the three-week period offering $330,000 in series prize money.

61st Annual Del Mar National Horse Show Adds More Prize Money and New $25,000 Open Hunter Classic to World Class Competition

The 61st Annual Del Mar National Horse Show, one of the most prestigious horse shows in the nation, opens April 20 and runs through May 7 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds Equestrian Center. Del Mar’s world class event offers more than $350,000 in prize money during three weeks of Western, dressage and hunter/jumper competition. This year, prize money is increased for the National Reining Horse Association's (NRHA) reining show, and a new $25,000 Dearborne Stables Open Hunter Classic has been added. With three weeks of Western, dressage and hunter/jumper classes, three Saturday night performances, ringside dining and gourmet boxes, equestrian shopping and live entertainment, the Del Mar National is unique amongst shows in the West.
