Two U.S. Riders Cross the Finish after a Day’s Work in the Desert; Results of the 2005 FEI World Endurance Championship

Two of the six riders representing the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) completed the 100-mile 2005 FEI World Endurance Championship on January 27 at Dubai International City in Dubai, UAE. The highest place finisher was Becky Harris of Medina, OH, who came in 20th place with a ride time of 8:47:03 on GA Tyfa Mynte. Carolyn Hock of Riverside, CA, and GTR Sando were 56 th with a ride time of 11:10:13.

The USEF, America’s national governing body for equestrian sport, announced today the appointment of Carr-Hughes Productions as its “Official Television Agency” with duties to oversee and promote their television programming efforts.

George Morris Resigns from Search Committee for U.S. Show Jumping Team Chef d’Equipe and Becomes a Candidate for the Job

George Morris, who was appointed to the Search Committee for the new U.S. Show Jumping Chef d’Equipe based on his credentials as a leading U.S. show jumping rider, trainer and coach, has resigned from the committee effective January 24, 2005. The remaining members of the Search Committee are Karen O'Connor, Eric Straus, Norman Dello Joio, Anne Kursinski, Jessica Ransehousen and Robert Ridland.

USEF Announces 2005 Triple Point Competitions

As the 2004 Horse of the Year season comes to a close, the Federation gears up for a new year of competition with the release of the 2005 Triple Point Competitions, for the Hackney/Harness, Roadster and Saddlebred divisions. Each year, the corresponding discipline committees vote to assign triple point status to one competition in each of the twelve regions. Points won at these designated competitions are tripled, and will be applied to the standings for the 2005 USEF Horse of the Year program.

Aaron Vale and Artur Victorious as 2005 American Grand Prix Association Tour Opens in Jacksonville

Aaron Vale of Aiken, SC, posted the first victory of the season as the 2005 American Grand Prix Association tour got underway in Jacksonville, FL, on Saturday, January 23, 2005. The nighttime competition took place at the Paul E. Reinhold Agricultural Center Fairgrounds on State Road 16 in Green Cove Springs, FL.

Richard Jeffery Claims Course Designer of the Year for a Record Seventh Time

Last year, course designer Richard Jeffery of Dorsett, United Kingdom, set a record at the USEF. He was the first to have been awarded Course Designer of the Year, on six separate occasions. Once again, Jeffery adds to that record winning streak, receiving the Mr. & Mrs. William C. Cox Memorial Trophy for a seventh time. In addition to the 2004 award, Jeffery enjoyed the title in 1989, 1990, 1994, 1999, 2002 and 2003.

Removal of Bandages and Boots Now Mandatory After Grand Prix Competitions

On the recommendation of the recently created FEI Task Force, the Jumping Committee herewith, with immediate effect, makes it obligatory for bandages and boots to be removed from each horse following his participation in Grand Prix competitions at all levels. This also applies to Derby competitions, as well as both rounds of each Nations Cup competition.

International Show Jumping Stars Continue Battle for Berths in 2005 FEI Budweiser World Cup Jumping Final in Las Vegas

Six out of 13 FEI Show Jumping World Cup Leagues have completed their qualifying seasons for the 2005 FEI Budweiser World Cup Jumping Final, April 20-24, 2005, at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, NV. The competition remains fierce in the other seven Leagues as riders around the world vie for the right to compete in Las Vegas along with those who have already secured themselves a place in the 27th annual FEI World Cup Final.

2005 WIHS Equitation and Pony Equitation Finals Acceptance Numbers and Qualifying Information

The 2005 WIHS Equitation and WIHS Pony Equitation Finals, to be held during the Washington International Horse Show (WIHS), October 25-30, 2005 at the MCI Center in downtown Washington, DC, will accept 30 riders in the WIHS Equitation Finals and 25 riders in the WIHS Pony Equitation Finals. Qualifying is based on points accumulated in WIHS Equitation qualifying classes held at shows starting on or after September 1, 2004, through shows starting on or before August 31, 2005. Letters of invitation will be mailed in mid-September.

This premier equine event offers the top money in the nation. It is the one event hunter riders aspire to compete in. There is no entry fee for the competitors. Riders qualify through preliminary competitions held during the Winter Equestrian Festival, February 16-19, 2005.

Certified Horsemanship Association Welcomes Washington Camp Director as New President

Phil Peterson of Port Orchard, WA, has been elected as president of the Certified Horsemanship Association for the 2005–2006 term. Peterson is Camp Director at Miracle Ranch in Port Orchard, WA. For the past 20 years, he has hired and trained the staff for the summer weekly and off-season weekend horsemanship camps, developed new programs for college apprentices and homeschoolers and has planned and completed two major buildings-–a full service dining and meeting facility and a complete horsemanship education facility.
