Winter Equestrian Festival 2005 Dressage Competitions--Three Eclectic, International, and Intense Competitions

The 2005 dressage season at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) will no doubt prove to be one of the most exciting show seasons for avid dressage fans and newcomers alike. Post-Olympic years are always the best time to catch a little excitement and get a sneak preview of many of the sport’s future greats. A number of horses that were not quite ready to compete against last year’s Olympic hopefuls will make their debut into the grand prix at WEF this year. Newcomers competing against the proven champions is a sure-fire recipe for excitement for spectators and competitors alike.

Foxhall CCI*** Will Run in 2005

The Foxhall Cup CCI*** will run April 13-17, 2005. Equestrian magazine incorrectly listed the event as cancelled on page 90 of the December/January 2005 issue.


Attention Horse of the Year Champions

EQUESTRIAN magazine will publish its annual photo gallery and roster of national, zone, regional and district Horse of the Year champions in the March 2005 issue. Owners of Horse of the Year champions are invited to submit photos for publication in the photo gallery. Final standings will be available on the website on December 20, 2004. The mailing of notification letters will begin on December 20 as well. All photos must be received in our office no later than January 21, 2005. (Photos received after this date cannot be included in the championship roster and will be returned if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included. The Federation is not responsible for lost or misdirected mail.)

Vote for Equestrian of the Year through Friday, January 7

As the year comes to a close, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) is pleased to announce the 2004 Equestrians of Honor. Of these seven honorees, one will be selected by the USEF membership, as the 2004 USEF Equestrian of the Year. Online voting has begun, and all members in good standing are invited to vote.

2005 HITS Ocala Fast Facts

Since its introduction in 1982, the Horse Shows In The Sun (HITS) Ocala Winter Circuit has become a fixture on the East Coast show jumping circuit. Each winter, the Ocala Circuit attracts national and international participants from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Classes offered range from grand prix show jumping to a selection of divisions for both the novice and experienced rider. Located in Ocala/Marion County, the heart of Florida's horse country, the area is home to over 600 horse farms and hundreds of supporting facilities and businesses. HITS moved the Ocala horse shows from the 100-acre Golden Hills International Show Grounds to the circuit's new home, the 300+ acre Post Time Farm in 2002. Post Time Farm is located just a few miles west of the Golden Hills International Show Grounds on Highway 27. The Post Time Training Center was originally built for Thoroughbred racehorses. The facility is professionally landscaped and features gated entrances, 52 miles of four-board fencing, 26 permanent barns that house 500 stalls, numerous paddocks, bridle paths, and additional buildings for the horse show office, restaurant and an on-site school.

2005 HITS Arizona Fast Facts

The six-week Arizona Winter Circuit has been a staple of West Coast circuits for many years. HITS took over production of this circuit in 1991. The Arizona Winter Circuit offers a full range of competition classes for beginners to advanced riders. Exhibitors gain valuable experience in the show ring under the eye of some of the country's top judges.

2005 HITS Indio Fast Facts

HITS purchased the former polo grounds in 1992 and held the first Desert Circuit that year. This year marks the thirteenth consecutive presentation of the Indio Desert Circuit. Produced by Horse Shows In The Sun, Inc. (HITS) under the direction of HITS President Tom Struzzieri, the six shows at Indio attract top international horses and riders as well as beginning riders seeking to gain experience in the show ring. Some of the country's foremost hunter, jumper and equitation judges preside at the show. This year, four of the grand prix competitions are qualifiers for the World Cup Finals that will be held later in the year.
