USEF Forms Education Department: Greater Service to Members a Catalyst for Structural Change
Release:
June 03 2009
Author:

Lexington, KY – As part of an ongoing series of structural changes designed to offer increased service to members while streamlining efficiency, the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) announces the creation of its new Education Department, effective June 1, 2009. The Education Department, formerly a part of Licensed Officials, will strive to improve service to the membership through the expansion of educational opportunities for competitors and licensed officials alike, offering national level clinics, seminars and FEI courses for licensed officials, as well as training programs and opportunities for online education.
“The positive response to our increased educational efforts over the last few years has been phenomenal, and we can’t ignore the pressing need for an even greater focus on education” said John Long, USEF Chief Executive Officer. “As the National Governing Body for Equestrian Sport, it falls to the Federation to provide education relating to all things equestrian, from first-time competitors to judges and stewards who are looking for a more in-depth understanding in their field of play. It is a tremendous responsibility and a challenge we welcome.”
Chuck Walker will lead all educational efforts as the newly named director, reporting to USEF Executive Director, Lori Rawls. Formerly the Assistant Director of Continuing Education in Licensed Officials/Continuing Education, Walker came on board in 2004, taking charge of national clinics and seminars for licensed officials, competition management and veterinarians.
“Chuck is a vital part of our team and I am pleased that he is leading this new endeavor,” shared Lori Rawls, USEF Executive Director. “Our licensed officials have come to trust him implicitly because he invests himself personally in the success of every USEF clinic that he manages. His vision for broadening the education base fits in perfectly with our overall focus on improved member service.”
Amanda Bassett has also been promoted and will work as the Assistant Director of the Education Department. Bassett has served in her current position as Licensed Officials Representative for three years.
The Education Department will continue to work closely with the Licensed Officials Department in the development of educational opportunities for licensed officials. The Licensed Officials Department will remain under the direction of Mary Smith.
