Super Sunday! U.S. Show Jumping Team Declared Victors of 2005 Samsung Super League
The European-dominated Samsung Super League cleared the way for some fresh faces in the winner’s circle—four stellar U.S. horse-and-rider teams, under the direction of the United States’ new coach, chef d’equipe George Morris. After a summer filled with some of the closest competition among world show-jumping neighbors, the U.S. show jumping team pulled a victory out of the hat Sunday, clinching the much-hoped-for, but sometimes elusive, overall win in the 2005 Samsung Super League.

USA Today Names U.S. Show Jumping Rider Jeffery Welles Athlete of the Week
A flawless double clear ride in Barcelona, Spain, was one of the deciding factors in determining which team would go home as 2005 Samsung Super League Champions. As it happens, the U.S. show jumping team was destined to take home that title—a title that more than a dozen U.S. riders worked for all summer long, and a title that came down to one last Nations Cup competition at CSIO Barcelona.

2006 USEF Annual Meeting Will Now Be Held in Cincinnati
The 2006 United States Equestrian Federation Annual Meeting, previously scheduled to take place in New Orleans, has been relocated to Cincinnati, OH, at the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. The dates for the convention will remain January 11–15.

USEF Hires Stang, Detol and Lemon to Prepare U.S. Vaulters for 2006 World Equestrian Games
In preparing for a solid U.S. Vaulting Team for the 2006 World Equestrian Games, the USEF Vaulting High Performance Committee has announced three new hires, all vaulting professionals who will work tirelessly to prepare our athletes for the rigorous competition that awaits them in Aachen, Germany, in 2006. Andrea Ice Named USEF Director of Hunter and Collegiate Activities
Effective October 3, Andrea Ice will take the position of Director of Hunter
and Collegiate Activities for the USEF. As
Director of Hunter Activities, Ice assumes the position vacated by Susan Dotson,
the newly named Executive Director of the United States Hunter Jumper
Association. Ice’s duties will include overseeing and directing the Hunter Department, under the direction of Karen Homer-Brown in National Sport Programs. In addition, Ice will continue her efforts in developing and implementing collegiate equestrian programs with the NCAA, under the direction of Don Whittle, Director of FEI Affiliates.

Courtney Barnett Named USEF Director of Reining
Effective October 17, Courtney Barnett will take the position of Director of Reining for the USEF. As Director of Reining, Barnett will assume responsibility for all high-performance and national aspects of the sport, including management of USEF championships and other events, as well as coordination with reining athletes. Barnett will work under the direction of Don Whittle, Director of FEI Affiliates.

FEI World Reining Masters Finals: "One World, One Whoa" is the Motto as Reiners Gather in Manerbio, Italy
Reiners and reining enthusiasts from all over the world are pouring into the little town of Manerbio, Italy, where, in the wonderful Palasturla facility, the finals of the second $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters Finals, presented by the Arcese Group and the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation (FISE) will be held on Saturday 24 at 9 p.m. The event is run concurrently with the 2005 Italian Reining Horse Association Maturity.

Vaulters Share their Spirit at Second Annual Conference

Special Performance by the Tempel Lipizzans to Benefit the USDF Capital Campaign
A special performance by the Tempel Lipizzans to benefit the United States Dressage Federation's (USDF) Capital Campaign is planned for Sunday, September 25, at 2 p.m. This exclusive event, sponsored by Land Rover, will include highlights of the Tempel Lipizzans performance featuring live commentary about the history of the 425-year-old Lipizzan breed as well as an explanation of some of the movements performed. Following the 45-minute performance, guests will have the opportunity to ask questions of the head trainer, Jochen Hippenstiel, and to tour the stables.

USEF Hurricane Equine Relief Fund - Make a Donation Online Now
The USEF has established the Hurricane Equine Relief Fund to assist those agencies working directly with the equine victims and refugees from Hurricane Katrina. The money will be used to support efforts to deliver food, veterinary services and shelter for horses and ponies in the hurricane-stricken areas. All donations are tax deductible, and gifts of any size are appreciated.

Paso Fino Horse Association Grand National Championship Underway
The first four days of competition at the 33rd Paso Fino Horse Association Grand National Championship Show are now in the history books. The very first class of the show, Pleasure Schooling Four-Year-Old Fillies had a total of 48 entries and Dictadora de Flat Rock, ridden by Shaw Laney and owned by Paul and Ali Casey, topped the class.

Buffalo International Horse Show Wrap-Up
The weather was beautiful in Buffalo, NY, for the start of the 59th Annual Buffalo International Horse Show (BIHS) at the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center. The ‘AA’-rated show is Buffalo’s most prestigious horse show and is used by many to prepare for the fall indoor circuit and zone finals horse shows.

USDF Announces Winners of Senior Athletic/Academic Achievement Award
The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) announced the winners of its Senior Athletic/Academic Achievement Award. The award was established to recognize senior USDF Intercollegiate/Interscholastic Members (IMs) who have a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA). The 2005 winners are James Marcotte of the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY, and Ashley Wolfe of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA.

St. Louis National Charity Horse Show to Feature Hunter Clinic
The St. Louis National Charity Horse Show will feature a special hunter clinic with two demonstrations during the four-day show. The clinic will be hosted by Bill Moroney, who is a USEF “R” judge in hunter, hunt seat equitation and jumper. Moroney has trained horses to wins at shows such as the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair, Washington International, Pennsylvania National, Lake Placid and the Winter Equestrian Festival. Moroney is also president of the United States Hunter Jumper Association and a member of the USEF Executive Committee and Board of Directors, as well as being involve with many other USEF committees.

Engle and Kraut Will Battle for the American Grand Prix Association Rider of the Year Title at Harrisburg
After 30 of 33 events on the 2005 tour, it all comes down to one class in this year’s race for the titles of American Grand Prix Association (AGA) Rider, Horse and Rookie of the Year. Entering its 27th year, the AGA Grand Prix Series of Show Jumping is the world’s richest and longest running series of equestrian show jumping events.

Nominations for the American Saddlebred Horse Association (ASHA) Annual Individual Awards are due Monday, October 31. Each year at the ASHA Annual Meeting in February, seven prestigious awards-–Lifetime Achievement, Meritorious Service, Breeder’s, C.J. Cronan Sportsmanship, Lurline Roth Sportsmanship, Gordon Jenkins International and Frank Ogletree Youth--are presented to seven of the most deserving people in the industry.

Taylor Takes Top Honors at Region 8 ASPCA Maclay Qualifier, Linders Wins Central Qualifier, Tredennick Captures Region 6
Three more qualifiers for the 2005 ASPCA Maclay National Championships were held this past weekend. The Region 8 qualifier was held at the Oaks Blenheim Fall Tournament in San Juan Capistrano, CA. Region 8 brings riders together from California, Nevada and Hawaii. Region 6 hosted riders from Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah at their qualifier during the High Prairie Fall Classic in Parker, CO. Region 5 consists of 12 Central states and had their qualifier at the St. Louis National Charity in St. Louis, MO.
