Emotional Victory for McLain Ward and Antares F in $250,000 Alltech Grand Prix at Alltech National Horse Show

McLain Ward and Antares F (Rebecca Walton/PMG)
Lexington, KY - It was a very emotional night at the Alltech National Horse Show as McLain Ward piloted his top mount Antares F to victory during the Alltech $250,000 Grand Prix, benefiting the United States Equestrian Team Foundation. Ward rode through his grief to beat six others in the jump-off, as the first to compete on his speedy partner.

Christine McCrea followed in second place aboard Romantovich Take One with the only other double clear effort, while the third place award went to Candice King and Whistler with a single time fault over the speed track...read more>

Watch video interviews with Audrey Jewell (above), Kelsey Urban, and coach Boo Major  at www.gamecocksonline.com
The No.2 South Carolina Equestrian team earned a win over No.1 Georgia Friday in what was a hard fought competition between the NCEA's top teams. The Gamecocks (3-0, 2-0 SEC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead in Equitation over Fences and rode that lead to an eventual 11-8 upset win. Going into Friday, Georgia (2-1, 1-1 SEC) was 50-1 all time in regular season home matches.

Led by senior captain Audrey Jewell the Gamecock Reining team took three of five points and gave the SC team a 7-3 cushion going into the final two phases. They needed it. After Equitation on the Flat the Bulldogs cut the lead to 9-6 and Maria Salazar started off Horsemanship with a win that made it 9-7. But back to back wins by freshman Kelsey Urban and redshirt junior Johnna Letchworth secured the upset...read more>
Alexandra Lawson - 2012 U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team Member - Has Seen the World Because of Saddle Seat Equitation
Alexandra Lawson is a 19-year-old freshman at Purdue University from North Salem, Indiana. She is a member of the three-gaited section of the 2012 U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team.

I've spent most of my life in the small farm communities of Danville and North Salem, Indiana. My parents and maternal grandparents are grain farmers - farming about 5,000 acres in the surrounding area. When you grow up in farm country, you just naturally get involved with FFA and 4-H, and it was through 4-H that I was introduced to and fell in love with Saddle Seat Equitation.

If it wasn't for Saddle Seat Equitation - I may have never left the quiet comforts of North Salem and Danville - and discovered the challenges, frustrations, failures, and successes that life can bring  if you just live it to the fullest...read more>
