Georgia tops Texas A&M 17-5 in Clash of No. 1 Teams
Going into Sunday's matchup Georgia and Texas A&M were tied atop the NCEA coaches poll. They won't be for long. The Bulldogs welcomed the Aggies into Athens, and into the SEC, with a 17-5 drubbing.

The Western teams both looked like No. 1s. Horsemanship ended in a hard fought 2-2 tie, one that included 2 ties in individuals matches, and the Aggies kept it close in Reining as well. But they  weren't able to hold of the Bulldogs who took the discipline 4-2. The Texas A&M Hunter Seat team however, was over matched. In Equitation over fences Georgia earned a 5-1 victory, and it was all Bulldogs in Equitation on the Flat where Hannah Williams, match MVP, led them to a 6-0 win...read more at www.georgiadogs.com.

Meet Abigail Mutrux - 2012 U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team Member

Abigail Mutrux is a 17-year-old junior at University City High School in St. Louis, Missouri. She is the captain of the three-gaited section of the 2012 U.S. Saddle Seat World Cup Team. In addition to riding Saddle Seat, she enjoys fox hunting and has been awarded her junior colors.
Perhaps Saddle Seat is something that most children aren't drawn toward when they first tell their parents that they want to start riding.

I was born into it.

My mother grew up competing at the same national level that I compete at now. She also rode Hunt Seat, just like me. I have been very fortunate in my riding career to meet influential people from different breeds and have made connections that allow for great opportunities.

My first memories of riding begin when I was three with a pony I received for Christmas. I quickly outgrew the foundered Shetland, realizing that he couldn't break into a canter...read more>

Western Dressage: Dream or Nightmare?

Last weekend our barn attended the first Western Dressage classes in our area.  It was a beautiful day to ride in a beautiful venue at a facility where the idea of western dressage has been warmly accepted.  It was such a nice feeling to share space with dressage riders and enthusiasts, most of whom were very curious about the discipline. We rode all the North American Western Dressage Tests through Level 4 and found the tests different, fun, progressive and challenging.  It was very encouraging to me to stand back and view the in gate area between the warm-up and competitive arenas.  As an observer, I found myself torn between the two worlds... the western rider in me felt triumphant...read more>
