News from USEF, affiliates and the equestrian world

Message from the Editor

Readers,

Last week I took over for Stephanie Doyle as Editor of this newsletter and as manager of e-communications at the USEF. First and foremost this change means that news and stories you would like to see in the Week in Review should be sent to me at aminnick@usef.org for consideration. Please update your contacts and mailing lists if necessary. Otherwise, be they compliments, criticisms, tips, or ideas I want to hear your thoughts about the Week in Review.

Only twelve days ago my wife and I packed all of our belongings into a U-Haul truck and set off for Lexington, KY from our small brownstone apartment in Philadelphia, PA. Now that I'm in the beautiful Bluegrass State it'll be my job to make USEF Week in Review the informative and engaging equestrian newsletter you want it to be. Do me a favor and open up a dialogue. In return I'll do what I can to make Week in Review the best that it can be.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Andrew Minnick

Lexington, KY - The legendary horseman and U.S. show jumping chef d'Equipe was under the weather this year but his protégés Anne Kursinski, Kent Farrington, McLain Ward, and Beezie Madden stepped in and kept the clinic entertaining and informative in his absence. The five day training session culminated in a mock Nation's Cup that split riders into four different teams and afforded everyone a valuable opportunity to practice jumping in the Nations Cup format.

If you missed any of the training session, or just want to see it again, the USEF Network is now hosting on demand video of all the morning riding sessions and many of the educational afternoon sessions.

Wellington, FL - Organizers of the World Dressage Masters presented by Axel Johnson Group have been informed that the stallion Totilas and his rider Matthias Rath of Germany will be unable to attend the WDM Palm Beach presented by International Polo Club Palm Beach, which is set to take place January 26th to 28th.

"I received a call this morning from Paul Schockemöhle, one of the owners of Totilas," said WDM Palm Beach organizer Noreen O'Sullivan of Wellington Classic Dressage."I am very sorry to announce that Totilas will not be able to compete in this year's World Dressage Masters Palm Beach. The owners feel the horse has just returned to light work after an injury and would not be ready for this event. We have already invited Totilas and Matthias to our 2013 WDM event. The owners and Matthias were very disappointed they would not be able to attend this year's WDM Palm Beach but also said they look forward to accepting our invitation for next year if the horse is going well."
