Date: June 10th 2017

Running order of Divisions:  CIC2*, CIC1*

Arena: 145ft x 275ft.  All weather

Starters/Clear Rounds:

CIC1* – 17/3 (18%)

CIC2* – 17/2 (12%)

While the second half of each course was the same the One Star had a less technical first half. Each Division had one different line to the other, which gave variety, and both Divisions could be walked well in advance as no jumps moved.

In the Two Star, of the seventeen starters only four competitors made the time.  Taking this from the posted results there is no telling if some of these time faults were due to refusals or not, although I suspect at least two, if not three, were as their time faults were in double figures.

The speed for both One Star and Two Star Divisions is based on 350 metres per minute and normally you would not expect time faults unless a horse stops or takes a long option around the ring.  With the size of this ring everyone had to more or less follow the same track.  However, when you look at the course plan the length is posted as 360 metres for the Two Star, while the One Star length is 440 metres.  Normally, when the same jumps are used, but jumped in a different order, there is not a lot of difference in the length of each course. Admittedly, there is a longer run between fences 5b and 6 on the One Star, but I would have not have thought that this would have made a difference of 80 meters.

I wonder, therefore, if the Two Star was not measured a little too tight.
