Date: 9th September 2017

Running order of Divisions:  CIC1*, CIC2*

Arena: 250ft x 180ft All-weather

Starters/Clear Rounds:

CCI1* – 7/ 3(43%)

CCI2* – 7/1 (14%)

With very few entries in each Division, as well as limited entries in the Intermediate that followed the One Star and Advanced that followed the Two star, I can understand why the Course Designer did not make any changes between these Divisions. However, an additional related fence could have been added to the last line for the Two Star to make that slightly more technical.

The distances used look very comfortable, but the last double, at 24ft 6” does feel a little short. However, the Evaluation sheet states that there was a slight slope in the arena (not sure which way) and that the all-weather footing could have been better, so this may have had an effect on that distance.

In an arena of this size, and shape, it forces each line to be related as you crisscross it. Therefore, it was nice to see a single fence (8) to give a little breather, especially after the related triple combination line.  There are only five oxers compared to eight verticals, so if the available  material allowed it,  this individual fence would have benefited from being an oxer and not a vertical.
