Digital Files

Preferred formats are either a Press-Ready PDF (all fonts embedded or subset, images 300 dpi and grayscale or CMYK) or QuarkXPress for Macintosh (4.x or later). Files supplied in Illustrator, Freehand, Photoshop, Pagemaker or QuarkXPress for Windows may incur production and/or conversion charges. All support files and fonts, including those used in EPS files, must accompany layout file. Accurate hardcopy or laser proof must accompany electronic files.

Photo Image Files

Photo image files should be supplied at 300 dpi at 100% of the size they are used. Image files should be grayscale or CMYK TIF or EPS format. Image files provided at incorrect resolution or format will be converted at advertiser’s expense.

Fonts

Advertiser must supply all fonts, including those commonly used. Type 1 PostScripts are preferred. Avoid TrueType fonts. Include both screen and printer fonts and fonts used by support files, i.e. logo font. For questions regarding other digital formats, please call USEF.

Spreads

Must have 1/2” gutter (does not apply to centerfold).

Specifications and Rates

Subject to change upon notification by publisher. All agreements must be in writing. Charges will be added for special handling, revisions or mechanical changes. Ads must conform to exact size requirements to avoid extra production charges. Advertiser and its agency are responsible for accuracy and content of ad. Publisher reserves the right to refuse any ad. USEF is not liable if it fails to publish an advertisement.

Guaranteed Position

10% of net rate will be added. Otherwise, ad positioning will be determined solely by the magazine.

Classified Ads

$1.85 per word, minimum 20 words ($37.00). Street address, city, state, zip code and phone number equal one word each. No agency discounts. Payment in advance by check, Visa, MasterCard or money order is accepted. Call (859) 225-6938.

Special Inserts

Tip ins, belly bands and other insert rates available upon request.

Production Rate

$75 per hour, one-hour minimum.

Pre-Payment

Required for first-time advertisers. Other advertisers may also be subject to pre-payment. Otherwise, payment is due within 30 days of invoice date. Failure to pay may result in an account hold and subsequent advertisement will not be allowed to run until payment is received. 15% commission allowed on gross space rate for recognized advertising agencies.

Payments

Cash, check, money order, American Express, VISA or MasterCard are accepted.

Late Ads

A fee of 10% of net rate will be added to ads that arrive after deadline. The magazine reserves the right to run the ad in the next issue.

Cancellation

Will not be accepted after closing date. Cancellation prior to end of a contract may result in an adjustment of the rate (short-rate) based on actual space used at the earned frequency rate.
