USEF Now Accepting Votes for Inaugural Farnam ®/ Platform™ · USEF Horse of the Year

The tally has just begun and your votes will be an integral part of deciding which of the nation’s leading equines will be named the inaugural Farnam ®/ Platform™ · USEF Horse of the Year. Merely weeks away from the 2006 USEF Annual Meeting, all heads are turning to these five finalists in anticipation of which horse will be adorned with the title—one of the most prestigious awards the USEF offers.

These five stand-out horses—Authentic, Brentina, Cefnoakpark Bouncer, WR Sonaskada+//, and Winsome Adante—are some of the very finest in our sport and each is worthy of the highest consideration for this celebrated honor.

Help shape the history of equestrian sport as you cast your vote for the nation’s top horse at www.usef.org/hoty/voting/index.php.

The Farnam ®/ Platform™ · USEF Horse of the Year will be announced during the Horse of the Year gala at the USEF Annual Meeting on January 14, 2006, at the Hilton Netherland Plaza in Cincinnati, OH. For more information, visit www.usef.org/convention/2006/index.php.

Show Jumping
Owner: Abigail Wexner

Paired with the legendary Beezie Madden, Authentic made history by helping the American team win its first Nations Cup in 2005. The Warmblood gelding was the star of the team show jumping competition at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, where he jumped the first three rounds with no faults. With Madden, Authentic wowed crowds at the 2004 USEF Olympic Selection Trials, with only eight accumulated faults for all six selection events.

Dressage
Owner: Peggy Thomas

Brentina is one of the most successful horses in the history of U.S. dressage, and her performances have helped establish the United States as one of the top countries in the discipline. In 2002, Brentina led the United States to a Team Silver at the World Equestrian Games. The following year, Brentina was honored by being the 2003 USET Breyer model horse. Brentina became the first American horse to earn a berth for the Olympic Games without performing in any of the qualifying events, when she was unable to compete due to a leg tendon injury. She went on to lead the 2004 U.S. Olympic dressage team to a Bronze medal finish. The story of Brentina and Debbie McDonald was made into a documentary, Brentina: From Idaho to Athens. Most recently, Brentina’s 2005 grand prix freestyle performance at the FEI World Cup in Las Vegas, NV, brought a wave of fans to their feet in standing ovation for a third place finish.

Driving, Welsh
Owner: Sybil Humphreys

In 2005, Cefnoakpark Bouncer made driving history with Suzy Stafford as the first team from the United States to ever win the Gold medal at the FEI Pony Driving Singles World Championship. Even more inspiring, Stafford and Bouncer had only been teamed together a few weeks. When the pony who Stafford was originally set to drive pulled a muscle, she contacted Sybil Humphreys and arranged for Bouncer to be her partner at the championship. Stafford is quoted as saying, “He (Bouncer) tries his best for you all the time.” It is no wonder that two separate USEF National Affiliates nominated this pony for Horse of the Year.
