Ocala, FL - When Karen Jenkins demanded her own pony at age five, her unsure parents insisted on riding lessons. Years of instruction and various horses later, they knew horses were in her blood - and not going anywhere. "My parents insisted that if I had a horse, I had to take care of it myself," said Jenkins, who is now 73. "I think they became resigned to the fact that I was dedicated to making horses a lifelong habit when they saw that to have my own horse, I would brave the cold Wisconsin winters, carrying water buckets to the barn a half-mile from the house in below zero temperatures."
"I love to watch them mature into magnificent creatures as close to the Spanish and Portuguese ideal as I can possibly achieve"
- Karen Jenkins

Westminster, MD - Danielle Fleegle knew something was wrong. She just had to figure out what that "something" was. Eventually, she did. And a horse named Waterloo went from nearly put down - twice - to a star. In 2010, the horse once known primarily for his bucking, won a PHR Silver Stirrup Award and became the CBLM Training Level Champion and GAIG Reserve Training Level Champion. "I'm so glad that we listened to our instincts, and so is he," Fleegle said. "As an amateur rider and equestrian, never make hasty decisions until the horse is thoroughly checked out by a professional, because many horses act out due to pain, fear or fear of pain. Help them help you become a better equestrian. They will surprise you and you won't have any regrets."

Morgan Breed Celebrated in Boston | |
Shelburne, VT - The Morgan horse breed was celebrated at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, MA, at the 2011 American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) Annual Convention, earlier this year. "The goal of our convention has always been to educate, honor and entertain and, based on the feedback we've received, the 2011 convention certainly accomplished all this and more," said AMHA Executive Director Julie Broadway. "Members came away with fresh ideas they were eager to go home and share, honorees appreciated the spotlight AMHA shined on their accomplishments and everyone had lots of fun. Many thanks to the convention committee for their hard work and their willingness to try some innovative ideas!"

Wellington, FL - Dressage trainer and rider Stefan Jansson spent his first trip to Florida mentoring Lusitano horses and their riders during a clinic at Carlene Blunt's Country Club Stables in Boynton Beach, FL. Sponsored by Interagro Lusitanos, the clinic came on the heels of The Lusitano Collection International Horse Auction, and was a fantastic learning experience for dressage riders who compete and train on Lusitanos. Jansson's methods of training fit well with the breed's disposition and talent, and the clinic was an excellent opportunity for the riders to capitalize on his expertise.
The clinic featured horses from Interagro Farms in Brazil, the largest exporter of Lusitano horses in the world and winner of the prestigious "Best Breeder of the Year" Award by ABPSL in 2009/2010. Jansson thought the horses were excellent to work with and the riders were all very professional and focused. He enjoys working with Lusitanos because they are typically a very forward breed with a good mind for work, and he thought the Interagro horses at the clinic were a very talented group.

The Performance Horse Registry (PHR) offers horse owners and breeders the opportunity to obtain identification papers for their horses, record pedigrees and collect performance records - all in one setting. Not only does this provide a place to track success, it also provides an avenue to explore the importance of making breeding decisions. Since the PHR is part of the United States Equestrian Federation, your horses' records will be part of one of the largest equine databases in the world.

The United States Equestrian Federation®, Inc. (USEF), as the National Equestrian Federation of the U.S., is the regulatory body for the Olympic and World Championship sports of dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, para-equestrian, reining, show jumping and vaulting, as well as 20 other breeds and disciplines of equestrian competition. As the country's largest multi-breed organization, the Federation recognizes more than 2,800 competitions nationwide each year. It governs all aspects of competition, including educating and licensing all judges, stewards and technical delegates who officiate at these shows. |
