USEF, USDF and USHJA Reach Historic Understanding

The USEF, the United States Dressage Federation (USDF), and the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) have reached an historic understanding regarding joint membership, horse registration, competition recognition, competition data and awards programs. USEF Unveils 2005 Rule Book; New Rules Effective December 1, 2004

Without further ado, the USEF is pleased to unveil the new and improved 2005 Rule Book, designed to help set the tone for the coming competition year with not only a brand new look, but also complete with easy-to-understand modifications. This latest edition represents the first stage of a massive reorganization project, led by the Ad Hoc Rules Reorganization Committee. The central goal of this project is to provide the best customer service to members and to make the Rule Book more user-friendly for everyone.

Tiffany's Sterling Silver Hat Tipped to Lowell Boomer, the Newest Recipient of USEF Lifetime Achievement Award

Adding accolades to nearly a century of service to the equestrian world, the USEF proudly tips Tiffany’s custom-crafted, sterling silver hat to Lowell Boomer, the recipient of the 2004 USEF Lifetime Achievement Award and the Jimmy A. Williams Trophy. This unparalleled award is given to the horseman or woman whose “life experience and accomplishments exemplify uncommon devotion to the sport of competition with horses and whose equestrian career and horsemanship have continually elevated the sport’s excellence.” In his 93 years of dedication, Boomer arguably fits the bill

USEF Bestows 2004 Pegasus Medals of Honor on Kusner, Price, Topping and Lytle

Following in the footsteps of exemplary equestrians who have paved the way for decades, Kathy Kusner, Margaret Price, Alvin Topping and Edna Griswald Lytle are the newest recipients of the USEF Pegasus Medals of Honor. These medals are given to individuals “who have exhibited outstanding service to horses and the sport and, who, through their dedication, have attracted people to the sport, and contributed to horse sport by advancing its popularity.” These deserving winners have been pioneers in shaping the path of equestrian sport.

USEF Honors Howard B. Simpson with 2004 Sportsmanship Award

The USEF names Howard B. Simpson of Lake Forrest, IL, the winner of the 2004 Perpetual Sportsmanship Award. Given in memory of Walter Bourchier Devereux, III, the Perpetual Sportsmanship Award honors the horseman or horsewoman who “exemplifies the ideal of good sportsmanship through commitment, dedication and service to USEF throughout his or her career.”

USEF Honors Dodge and Kohler; Joint Winners of 2004 Memorial Breeders' Award

Adding their names to a long list of respected breeders from across the country, Diana Dodge of Montpelier Station, VA, and Herb Kohler of LaGrange, KY, have been named the winners of the USEF 2004 Ellen Scripps Davis Memorial Breeders’ Award. Given in memory of American Saddlebred owner and breeder Ellen Scripps Davis, the award recognizes an individual who consistently breeds outstanding show horses. The award also honors the role that unique breeding enterprises have in the development and improvement of show horses.

United States Riders Rank Well at 2004 FEI Children's International Jumping Final

Making a name for herself among the top riders at the 2004 FEI Children’s International Jumping Final, Jennifer Stillman of Beverly Hills, CA, rode Masterpiece’s Montero (Bay Hanoverian gelding) to a second place finish at the Finals competition November 28, giving champion Daniel Bluman of Columbia a real run for the title.

Opening Day of 121st National Horse Show & Family Festival Features First Rounds of $150,000 National Horse Show Hunter Championship

The 121st National Horse Show & Family Festival opened today with the first rounds of the Open Division of the $150,000 National Horse Show Hunter Championship in the Internationale Arena. The next two rounds of Phase One will be contested December 1-2 to determine the top 12 that will move on to Phase Two, the final two rounds on December 4 that ultimately determine the National Horse Show Hunter Champion. A highlight of hunter competition on November 30 was Shachine Belle aboard In Disguise wining the Regular Conformation Hunter Round 1. In Disguise was Green Conformation Hunter Champion at last year’s National.

Q: If a horse has more than one owner, do all of the owners have to be United States Equestrian Federation members?
A:
No. Only one of the owners need be a Life, Senior or Junior member or pay a $20 non-member fee and a $5 Breed/Discipline fee (Senior members) at each competition. (See GR201)

After setting up AUA or if you already have an AUA:
When you have set up an AUA, go back into your AUA account. Click on the arrow under Membership forms (beside the word "select") and then click on the "2005 Proof of Membership Card Reprint."


FEI Rule Change Alert

There are changes and corrections to the FEI Dressage Rules that will be effective as of 1 January 2005. These rule changes and corrections can now be downloaded on the FEI web site www.horsesport.org under Dressage - Rules.



Excitement Builds as 2004 World Cup Qualifiers Come to a Close for West Coast League Riders; Spooner, Gatlin and Salick in Close Contention for World Cup Slots

As the 2004 season comes to a close, West Coast League riders step out of their saddles for a moment to reflect on five rounds of World Cup qualifiers that have determined their standings at the halfway mark. Separated by only a few points, Richard Spooner, Joie Gatlin and Gabriella Salick maintain an incredibly close race for the three World Cup slots afforded to the League. A tenth place finish atop Hilton Flight (Bay Irish Sport Horse gelding; Errigal Flight—Occasion VII; Freedom Farms, Inc.) at the $40,000 Los Angeles National Grand Prix on November 20 was all it took to boost Spooner into the leading spot among these top-notch show jumpers, adding six points for a total of 54 World Cup qualifying points.
