Ashley Alden Wins USEF Saddle Seat Medal Final
Ashley Alden, 17, of Deer Park, IL, riding American Saddlebred LA Blues, was crowned champion of the 2005 USEF Saddle Seat Medal Final, held November 19, as part of the UPHA/American Royal National Championship Horse Show in Kansas City, MO.
Smith topped the class of 24 entries in the two-phase competition that required both rail work and patterns in both rounds. She is instructed by Kenny and Donna Pettry-Smith in New Lenox, IL. As champion, Alden will have her name engraved on the Adrian Van Sinderen Trophy and Helen K. Crabtree Perpetual Bronze. In addition to these awards, she also received a Freedman Harness World Cup equitation saddle and Gold medal sponsored by the USEF.

Kentucky Sending Team to Bahrain in Efforts to Bring World Equestrian Games to America for the First Time Ever
Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher will dispatch a team to Bahrain in an attempt to bring the 2010 World Equestrian Games to America for the first time ever in the history of horse sports. The games occur every four years and have never been held outside of Europe.

Craig Schmersal Earns NRHA Million Dollar Rider Status
Craig Schmersal had four horses to show at the Southwest Reining Horse Association (SWRHA) Futurity and Horse Show in Ardmore, OK, in October. He had Commanders Nic and Im Genuinely Smart for Open and Novice Horse Open competition. He had two three-year-olds for the SWRHA Futurity, Wrangle Whiz and Conquistadors Star. All four horses earned NRHA paychecks.

FEI Children's Jumping Final Bonds Young Riders from All Over
For the second year in a row, the United States hosted the FEI Children’s International Jumping Final. Held at the lovely Hummingbird Nest Ranch, just north of Los Angeles, 32 of the highest-ranked riders, ages 12-14, congregated for a week of competition and camaraderie, November 22-27.

USET Foundation Honors Olympic Gold Medal Show Jumping Team with Reception Hosted by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg
On Monday, November 21, the Gold Medal Show Jumping Team from the 2004 Athens Olympic Games was honored by the United States Equestrian Team (USET) Foundation with a Gold Medal Reception hosted by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion in Manhattan. A select group of approximately 150 guests, including Olympic horse owners and other friends and supporters of the U.S. team, attended the two-hour evening event. All four members of the Gold Medal Show Jumping Team were present: Beezie Madden, Chris Kappler, McLain Ward and Peter Wylde, as well as the chef d’equipe at Athens, Frank Chapot.

Paul Rohrbach Posts His First Big Win at the 2005 Los Angeles National
“Who is Paul Rohrbach?” asked many people after he posted his first major grand prix win at the $50,000 Los Angeles National Grand Prix. Rohrbach, a professional from Colorado who runs a successful hunter/jumper training business with partner Corky Shaha, has been steadily posting strong grand prix finishes over the years. After his stellar performance in the grand prix aboard Mary Dunahay’s Shiraz, everyone knew who he was.

122nd National Horse Show and Family Festival Begins with Multiple Wins for Scott Stewart and Tough Competition in the Palm Beach Post Welcome Stake
The first day of competition began on Wednesday, November 30, at the 122nd National Horse Show and Family Festival (NHS). The hunters were the main feature for the day and were ready for competition. After Tuesday's rain made the Internationale Arena too wet for competition, the classes were moved to the sand Rost Arena. The NHS will continue through Sunday, December 4, at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, FL.
