Cabana Boy and Hickey, Grandioso and Canton Win Divisions in the Markel/USEF National Young Horse Dressage Championships presented by Collecting Gaits Farm
With three championships left to go in the final day, it was Christopher Hickey and U.S.-bred Cabana Boy who swept the five-year-old championship division and Jason Canton and Grandioso who won the six-year-old championship division of the 2007 Markel/United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) National Young Horse Dressage Championship presented by Collecting Gaits Farm.
Beginning with the five-year-old preliminary test on Friday, Hickey and Cabana Boy dominated their division by placing first for both phases of the championship, ending with a total score of 8.408. Owned by Hilltop Farm, Inc., Cabana Boy is a bay Hanoverian gelding (Contucci x Britania by Bordeaux; bred in the U.S. by Doug and Shannon Langer). Taking reserve champion was Verena Stock and Roccoca WF with a total score of 7.880. Owned and bred in the U.S. by Vanessa Carlson, Roccoca WF is a dark bay/brown Hanoverian mare (Rienzi x Turtletaubchen by Tin Rocco).

Olympian Michelle Gibson and Don Angelo Win Inaugural USEF National Developing Horse Dressage Championship sponsored by the Dutta Corporation and Performance Sales International
“The sun shines bright on my old Kentucky home” and it certainly did shine brightly on Olympian Michelle Gibson and her new star Don Angelo in the inaugural USEF National Developing Horse Dressage Championship, sponsored by the Dutta Corporation and Performance Sales International. Following up on their winning Developing Horse Test ride on Saturday, Gibson and Don Angelo made the Prix St. Georges test look effortless in earning a test score of 70.000% for an overall average of 69.960% and the national championship title.
Willy Arts and Waterloo SE Win Four-Year-Old Division in the Markel/USEF National Young Horse Dressage Championships
With the second day underway in the 2007 Markel/United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) National Young Horse Dressage Championships presented by Collecting Gaits Farm, Willy Arts and Waterloo SE claimed the title of national champion in the four-year-old division, besting 19 other horses to win with a score of 8.620. It was Kentucky’s own Kathy Priest and her horse Reliance who took reserve champion with a score of 8.16.
Chester Weber Sets Record With Fifth Consecutive Win of the USEF National Four-in-Hand Championship
It was a “typical day” at the office for Chester Weber as he went out and captured yet another USEF National Four-in-Hand Championship, his fifth in a row. Yet, Weber, of Ocala, FL, had some top-notch competition to challenge him as two previous five-time winners sought to win their sixth title. Both Tucker Johnson of Hobe Sound, FL, and James Fairclough of Newton, NJ, have accomplished what Weber has done, but neither has had the reign that Weber has maintained over the past five years.
Runaway Victory for Germany, U.S. Ends in Fourth and It's Farewell to France in the Samsung Super League Final
The 2007 Samsung Super League with FEI final at Barcelona in Spain lived up to expectations on Sunday when, in a nail-biting thriller, Germany registered a second successive series title along with victory on the day.
But for France, champions over the first two seasons of this hugely popular and high-profile Nations Cup series, it was a case of so near and yet so far, and luck played a big part as they were forced into relegation. A single fence separated them from the Swedish team, who slotted into joint-second place with The Netherlands at the end of the day, and the Swedes owe a great deal to Holland's Gerco Schroder. Without his single second-round error, they would not have shared runner-up spot and gained the extra two points that made all the difference in the final standings.
Exciting Finishes at the Wellpride American Eventing Championships
Nothing was easy to predict in the show jumping phase of the advanced division at the Wellpride American Eventing Championships (AEC) at Lamplight Equestrian Center in Wayne, IL. Only Canadian Young Rider Kelly List and Minstral were able to put in a double-clear round.
Dressage leader Allison Springer, who was in fifth place going into the final phase aboard Arthur, had eight time faults to finish on 40.7. She was followed by fourth-placed Corinne Ashton on Dobbin with one rail down for a score of 36.5. Darren Chiacchia on Timothy Holekamp’s Windfall II followed, dropping two rails to finish on 38.4.
