Irish Win Close Contest; U.S. Fights Back to Fifth in Nations Cup at CSIO La Baule

La Baule, France - Ireland won the opening leg of the 2011 FEI Nations Cup series in a nail-biting thriller at La Baule. On an afternoon when the form-book was turned on its head, Robert Splaine's side of Shane Sweetnam (Amaretto Darco), Billy Twomey (Romanov), Cian O'Connor (Larkhill Cruiser) and Cameron Hanley (VDL Southwind) produced superb jumping to finish with a two-fault advantage over the runners-up from Belgium, while the mighty German side had to settle for third spot in the eight-nation clash.

USEF Equestrians in Action: New Program Encourages Youth to Volunteer, Offers $1,500 Grant

The United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Equestrians in Action program tracks youth volunteer hours that are aimed at improving the welfare of the horse or positively promoting equestrian sport. Sponsored by The EQUUS Foundation, the program encourages youth to give back to equestrian sport - at horse shows, equine promotional events, equine businesses or organizations, trade fairs, therapeutic riding clinics, horse rescue and 4-H events.

Dressage

Hagen, Germany - Fresh from the Reem Acra/FEI World Cup Dressage Final, Jan Ebeling and Shawna Harding headed to CDI Hagen with their World Cup horses, Rafalca and Come On III. Ebeling led the charge for the U.S. finishing fifth in the grand prix on a score of 70.872%. Ebeling commandeered an excellent performance out of Ann Romney's mare, and received four 8s on his riding. The pair was then eighth in the Grand Prix Freestyle on a score of 73.875%. Laura Bechtolscheimer, Great Britain's Silver medalist from the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, was invincible with Andretti H, easily winning all four grand prix classes at the competition.
