New Era Dawns as 2009 Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ Opens at La Baule
A century of sporting history will be celebrated when the much-anticipated first leg of the inaugural Meydan FEI Nations Cup™ series takes place in La Baule, France, this weekend.
It was in 1909 that the indoor London Olympia and outdoor San Sebastian shows first hosted military team jumping competitions and, 100 years on, the honor and distinction of representing one's country in the battle for team supremacy has lost none of its edge.
The advent of new sponsors, the Dubai-based development group Meydan, marks some exciting changes to the ever-evolving Nations Cup format, which continues to hold enormous appeal for both spectators and competitors alike.
The number of participating teams has been increased from eight to 10, and two nations will now be relegated at the end of the season to be replaced by the two leading countries from the second-division Promotional League.

Devon Kane of Diamante Farms Wins at Poplar Place Farm's April Dressage Show
Diamante Farms of Wellington, FL, competed at the Poplar Place Farm's April Dressage Show on April 18-19, in Hamilton, GA. Riders Devon Kane, Shawna Harding, and Karen Lipp all rode under the instruction of Diamante Farm's head trainer Michelle Gibson and posted high scores and championship wins over the weekend of competition. Terri and Dick Kane of Wellington, FL, and San Antonio, TX, own Diamante Farms.
Devon Kane did very well showing her 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood Prins in the Brentina Cup Qualifier over the weekend. The pair scored an impressive 65% for the class win, and Kane was very proud of the dramatic difference in her horse's performance since their last show a month ago.
"I was very pleased with the show in Poplar Place. The show grounds were wonderful, and the horses were all very comfortable," Kane said. "The horses were moving like crazy and felt great in the cool weather. The whole atmosphere of the show was nice and relaxed, and everyone seemed very calm, which directly affects the horses. Prins was relaxed and listening in the ring, which was my goal for this show. He felt good, and I think it was a confidence booster for both of us."

Morgan Horse Pavilion at Kentucky Horse Park Progress Reported at American Morgan Horse Association Convention
The Morgan Horse Pavilion at Kentucky Horse Park Committee of the American Morgan Horse Institute introduced three-dimensional models of the pavilion and a comprehensive set of architectural perspectives to those in attendance at the American Morgan Horse Association Convention in Sacramento, CA, in February.
“The Morgan Horse Pavilion at Kentucky Horse Park Project (MHP at KHP) has achieved several milestones since its initial approval by the AMHI (American Morgan Horse Institute) last September,” said Bob Morgan, President of the AMHI Board. “The Kentucky Horse Park approved the building design and plan in January 2009. This paved the way for site surveys, core drilling, and other pre-construction engineering initiatives currently under way.”
This building will be the first “green” building on the campus of the Horse Park. “The design is not only functional but environmentally advanced. An example of this is that we will capture rain water and circulate it to water our vegetation and provide a flow in our stream and waterfalls,” stated architect Yum Kee Fu. In addition, there are plans to create a geothermal heating and cooling system so that operating costs will be substantially reduced.

Wilhelm Genn became the first rider to reach the World Equestrian Brands/United States Hunter Jumper Association’s (USHJA) Rider Recognition Program’s elite $1 Million Club after a successful campaign at the Lake St. Louis Hunter Jumper Show, April 1-5, 2009. Genn rode Happy Z, Chantal and Loredo, to third-, fourth- and sixth-place finishes in the $25,000 Grand Prix, to push him over the $1-million mark.
“It’s a great program that World Equestrian Brands sponsors,” Genn said of the USHJA Rider Recognition Program. “It’s just wonderful, and I think I can speak for all riders and say we truly appreciate it.”
World Equestrian Brands is the title sponsor of the USHJA Rider Recognition Program. This program was created in 2005 to track the lifetime money earnings of professional hunter and jumper riders in USEF-recognized divisions. The program consists of six tiers, starting at the $50,000 level and working up to the elite $1 Million Club, to recognize riders’ achievements. Each year, riders are recognized for their accomplishments with commemorative plaques at the USHJA Annual Meeting. In honor of his milestone, Genn will receive a custom Amerigo saddle and cooler from World Equestrian Brands.
