A Look Back at the $25,000 WCHR World Cup Team Hunter Challenge Presented by the AHJF
On Saturday afternoon, April 23, in Las Vegas, NV, in the Thomas & Mack Center, the world witnessed the first ever $25,000 WCHR World Cup Team Hunter Challenge, thanks to the American Hunter-Jumper Foundation (AHJF). That event had a long name but a new future for the sport of hunters in the U.S. The Challenge pitted four of the top U.S. hunter riders against three of the top European jumper riders and one Brazilian rider on world class horses that were on loan for this special occasion. The competition was added to the prestigious FEI World Cup Dressage and Show Jumping Finals, which were held concurrently in the same location for the first time in the history of the World Cup.

FEI General Assembly – Reining’s Olympic Dream Is Alive and Well
When will reining be in the Olympics? We have all heard the question. As the only Western discipline approved for International Equestrian Federation (FEI) competition, reining is on the threshold of Olympic inclusion. While the threshold won’t easily be traversed, reining received a substantial and very encouraging boost when the FEI, during its 2005 FEI General Assembly, April 5-10, in London, England, proposed recommending the addition of a fourth equestrian discipline for future Olympic competitions to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). In the framework of the discussions, the General Assembly agreed that the FEI would make every effort to include a fourth equestrian discipline within the Olympic Program.

Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Vesicular Stomatitis Embargo
With the notification received yesterday evening that an equine animal residing on a single premise in Maricopa County, AZ, has been diagnosed with vesicular stomatitis (VS), Kentucky's Administrative Regulation 302 KAR 20:115 will now prohibit the entry of all livestock (including horses), wild and exotic animals into Kentucky from the VS Embargoed portions of Arizona identified as being Maricopa County.

2005 Gold Coast Shows Continue Series Awards
The Gold Coast series of horse shows, held at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center, are three-day USEF “B” rated hunter/jumper shows that allow people to stay close to home while enjoying a quality show. There are seven shows in the 2005 series, and the series kicked off with Gold Coast 1, February 18-20.

Savannah Riders Take Two Titles at the ANRC National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship
Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) of Georgia won the hunter seat equitation phase to clinch the team title at the 28th Annual Affiliated National Riding Commission’s National Intercollegiate Equitation Championship, April 16-17, hosted by Sweet Briar College in Virginia. SCAD junior Jordan Siegel took home the title of Individual Champion for the second time in her college career.

A World Stage for Young Jumpers: The FEI Children's Jumping Final
Once in a while a really great idea emerges, one that takes into account the future. The FEI Children’s Jumping Final is just such an idea. You may not be aware of the competition; after all it doesn’t gain the coverage of a World Cup, an Equestrian Games or an Olympics. It is open to riders from ages 12 to 14 only, but that is part of what makes it so valuable.

Another Banner Year for the Garden State Horse Show
It was a strong start for Cynthia Williams on the opening day of the Garden State Horse Show, held May 4-8 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ.
Williams and a seven-year-old gelding named Quality Time topped the first three Green Conformation classes. Owned by White Hill Farm of New York, NY, the 16.2-hand hunter will make a play for the Green Conformation championship on Thursday when the final classes are held in the main hunter ring.
