USEF Horse Breeders Symposium to Offer Invaluable Information The USEF Breeders Committee recently announced the sponsorship of a breeders' symposium. The inaugural event will take place the last Sunday in April at Wisconsin's state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, the Wisconsin Equine Clinic in Oconomowoc. Many of the top breeding stallions in the Midwest use this highly regarded facility for their reproductive needs. It is also used for care of young stock and managing mature stallions and broodmares.
Staffed by veterinarians in a variety of specialties, the symposium speakers will cover aspects of breeding, including collection, insemination, shipping fresh cooled and frozen semen, embryo transfer, foaling and care of the newborn. Dr. Andy Schmidt, Dr. Doug Langer, Dr. Scott Austin and Dr. Bob Magnus will educate attendees about the clinical side of the horse breeding business. Ken Borden and Gareth Selwood will speak on topics relating to halter training, showing in-hand and under saddle with young horses. Both professional horsemen have bred, trained and shown numerous in-hand champions at United States Dressage Federation and USEF competitions, and presented stallions for testing at breed approvals and inspections with great
success. For the full story, click here. Olympic Training Taking Place at Florida Horse Park

Faced with the high price of fuel, more endurance riders are participating in multi-day events as a way to get more miles for their money, reports the American Endurance Ride Conference (AERC), the governing body for endurance riding in the United States.
“In today’s age of increased fuel and other costs, the multi-day ride is the best value going for endurance riders,” says past AERC President Randy Eiland. “Instead of competing just one day, the multi-day ride allows the rider to participate in three or more endurance rides for the cost of only one trip.” For the full story, click here. Impact of Equine Activities on Youth Research Published The American Youth Horse Council (AYHC) has partnered with Pennsylvania State University to conduct research that quantifies what we already know: Kids + Horses = Magic!
One of the strategic goals of the AYHC is to validate the measurable impact of equine activities on youth development. There have been few scientific studies conducted that measure the impact of horse activities on horsemanship and life skills development. AYHC and Penn State teamed up with the National High School Rodeo Association, 4-H, Pony Club and the American Quarter Horse Youth Association to conduct this important research.

The Colorado Horse Park Two-Star Three-Day Event has been postponed. The event, usually held over the Memorial Day weekend holiday, typically draws several hundred horses and riders from beginner novice to Olympic medalists. Yet, even with its success, the volunteer Eventing Committee recommended postponement of the event in order to upgrade the footing, update the course and to find funding to make these improvements. Ideally, enough enhancements can be made to hold the Fall Horse Trials, which are currently scheduled for September 29-October 1, 2006.
