From the February 2005 issue of EQUESTRIAN magazine: When Nature Turns Nasty
Blizzards, hurricanes, floods, mudslides, earthquakes, droughts, ice storms, fires—let’s face it, nature can get quite nasty at times. Not only can our lives be at risk, but our horses could be in danger, too. After all, they depend on us for their overall care and well-being. Horse owners and caretakers can save lives before, during and after a disaster with proper disaster management planning.
Dr. Sebastian Heath is one of the foremost authorities on animal disaster management. In his book, Animal Management in Disasters, he writes, “The best mitigation of disasters involving animals is to promote responsible animal ownership, both in the home and in the animal production industry. The appropriate approach is for owners first to be encouraged to develop their own emergency contingency plans.”

And so on Saturday, February 19, 2005, in Wellington, FL, with sadness in her heart but determination in her ride, Serio and Costello negotiated two spectacular performances for a total two-round score of 178.500, mere fractions ahead of second place finisher Take Away, ridden by Havens Schatt.

High Scores and High Spirits at the Florida Dressage Classic
The Zada Enterprises, LLC, Florida Dressage Classic ended on a high note on Sunday, February 20, as spectators were treated to more than 20 musical freestyles performances. The $2,000 Grand Prix Musical Freestyle class drew a huge crowd and Leslie Morse’s winning ride on Kingston garnered almost unprecedented enthusiasm from the spectators. The dynamic ride to the Pirates of the Caribbean tune, "The Curse of the Black Pearl" was perfectly suited to Kingston, who seemed as pumped up as the crowd. A mistake in the one tempi sequence could not take away from the ride’s overall impact, and the judges rewarded the effort with a score of 77.166%. It was a fitting finale for Morse, who dominated the Grand Prix throughout the show. She and Kingston also won the FEI Grand Prix on Friday with a score of 72.014%. And she and her Swedish stallion, Tip Top 962, won Saturday’s Grand Prix Special with a score of 69.133%.
